You should out of the attic if you think I am an asswipe. Thar be some real jackassed barb throwers around here. This introductory thread for some of you folks has been pretty tame byb attic standards.

LoL

(and by whining about me twice, you are doing an exemplary job as a snowflake Mr Hadfield.)

Most certainly not deeper than that. There is actually some subtle deepness behind that phrase when it is directed at a particular individual. A few people here get it.

Now, now User, you are using intelligence, logic and witty humor to get your point across, watch out or you will be called an elitist asswipe treehugger or some sort.

I think that our country has not been this divided since Vietnam protests, which I did a lot of. I blame myself and my fellow baby boomers for causing this. We got overzealous and crazy and ruined this country. We raised a generation of spoiled brats (remember our "anything goes" or "if it feels good, do it" slogans) who in turn raised a following generation of spoiled, misguided, undisciplined brats---our grandchildren. Those are the millennials that we see now protesting with no sense of consequences for their actions.

I am ashamed of what we did and I don't know how to fix it. I do know that we need the diversity to keep us honest, and we don't need everyone thinking the same. I don't want to be 100% liberal where the government does everything nor do I want to be 100% conservative where we have no progress. I think many of our diversity groups have tilted our country towards the left too far. If we all begin to think alike and agree on everything, then what's going to happen when a small group disagrees with current policy of the country---will they be executed or shouted out? It is absolutely ridiculous that a conservative cannot speak at Berkeley or Columbia without being shouted down---afterall, did we 1960's boomers speak and protest without getting beat up or shouted down? I am worried about the double standard that our country has created now and that conservatives are considered racists, bad, and wrong. I wish the antifas groups would take a hard look back at their great-grandparents lives from the 1950s and realize that they peacefully coexisted with diversity and that they did not have to riot and destroy.

I am white and middle of the road, neither a white-supremacist nor an antifas. I agree in principle that all groups must be allowed to peacefully assemble without fear of being stoned; our constitution permits this. Why does the current generations of millennials not understand this in principle? My generation of Vietnam protestors was allowed to assemble without fear. I don't like white supremacy politics nor do I like the leftist thinking, but I respect both groups being allowed to express views in a public park. What troubles me is that without the freedom for a group to express their viewpoints, then either group is no different from the other. Leftists are no different than white supremacists at shutting down divergent thinking. There are many examples throughout history where a particular group and leader was allowed to reign with absolute power, shutting down all dissidents and we know how that turned out. Is this what our protestors want and is this where we are headed? I have no intention of giving the white supremacists or the antifas groups the time of day or listening to their rants while at the same time, I want to slap the counter-protesting group and send either group home and allow the speakers to continue with their audience.

That's enough ranting for now. I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack from antifas, but that's ok. Eventually you'll grow up and realize what mistakes you are making, like I did. Same for the white supremacy groups when they realize how hateful their overall thinking is.

Waiting on adm to send this all to the attic, where it probably belongs.

If by "refreshing" you mean throwing shade at Nazis and the Klan, or insulting our allies while refusing to confront a hostile foreign power, hollowing out the State Department, the constant stream of pathological lies, attacking the independence of the judiciary, launching a fake commission on voter fraud because he can't stand the thought he lost the popular vote and loose talk about flinging nukes around, then yes, I see your point.

I think the only way out of this divide is to form a third party, made up of conservative Democrats and Republicans. Since the liberals hijacked the Democratic party and the Teaparty hijacked the Republicans, I say leave those two parties to the both of them and let's splinter off a third party with moderates. There is not that much difference between the middle of both parties that can't be resolved like we had in the 50s and 60s. Call it the "Moderate" party or "American" party or whatever and leave the two Democrat and Republicans extremes to their own demise. I know that the current Democratic party definitely does not represent my views at all. I believe that there is enough support from a moderates base that would make up about 60-70% of the like-minded thinking in this country that would enable us to move forward without being divisive and hostile. I think that with a third party, the general populace would not have to vote along Democratic or Republican party lines and can elect better representatives. The problem with this past election was that the Democrats nominated Clinton and the Republicans only had Trump left to represent them. Many people voted for Trump because of Hillary and if we had had a third party candidate that spoke for that 60-70%, he/she could have beaten them both. I know that this can be done and it only takes courage and a good spokesperson that can lead this group. Any thoughts as to who this person could be? I was thinking about a Kennedy or the SC governor??

You right-wingers accepted Obama in the same manner we accept Trump. In fact, the vile excretions of the right wing about obama were not only worse than what you are experiencing now were mostly based on lies (i.e. birtherism) and most of the negative things we say about trump can be backed up with facts which are not fake news no matter how often you insist otherwise. You can come of your high horse now.
