You are undoubtedly the greatest nation on earth.Ever wonder why you use someone else's language? Mind you I am not complaining, because of your influence English signs are in most places in the world.
I wondered what your language would be called if you had your own? I came up with Yanklip.Any better ideas?

At one time in Texas there was concern that German would be the dominant language. I think up til WWII German and Czech were common in many locales. Guten Tag y'all.

I think it's The Empire that spread English throughout the world. You know, when the sun never set on it.
English is definitely the dominant language on the planet. Anyone who wants to get ahead has to learn English.
On a related topic. I had a summer job a few years ago, and they took in young workers from foreign countries. Sitting around talking one day, one of the young Russians said, "You don't realize how important it is to be born in America."
Well, now, y'all, we don' speak English. It's called 'Merican.

Funny. We use a space after each punctuation.
I think this is a strange question. Our country was founded substantially by English colonists. We started out like the child of the parent who grew into adulthood. Over time we absorbed many other nationalities and became larger and more powerful than our parent, but retained our original method of communicating. We have changed so much that we hardly resemble our parent. Children learn the language of their parents, so this is a no-brainer question. What would be the alternative? Deciding we should change our common language into some other language and go through the very difficult process of learning another one? That would be a stupid idea. Most people would not be able to handle that.
English itself evolved from several other languages, so this question is like asking why doesn't the UK speak one of those languages?
I just say "American". It is one of several English dialects (in fact, there are several just within the "American" category). But at heart, they are all "English".
American English is different from British English. Just as Mexican Spanish is different from Spanish Spanish.

Being American and having had to learn to read write and speak French, Arabic and Portuguese in order to conduct my Architectural and Engineering pursuits in, e.g. Saudia, Qatar, Brazil, England, Ireland, Wales, I recognized that my early education in LATIN was invaluable in my undertaking to be fluent in other languages. The UK, or the Empire, wasn't the SOURCE------Latin and Greek were the language forebears, Arabic was the Mathematics forebear to the Germanic languages.............In "Americanese"---You didn't originate language in the Empire, you adapted to the original sources!!
