Just use your phone. And the wifi.
I agree that using one's cellphone is the easiest way to go. And it does not cost anyone a penny more. Only the time to download the app. But I know for my shooting, there will be times I will have situations that a shutter release will be more efficient. Even though a somewhat infrequent need, for me the need supersedes what I consider a minor cost. For others, the situation will be just the reverse.
I believe canon makes a remote that fits the em1ii, and it's about $10.
Sorry for the delayed response, but I just now saw this thread. Any remote with a 2.5mm 3 connector plug that works with Canons will work with the EM1.2
I was looking into similar devives about a month ago because my wifi randomly looses connectivity. After reading several reviews I found I was no further forward. Everyone said the device functioned as it should but the problem was that for many models, Olympus puts the IR sensor on the front of the camera and therfore, the remote needs to be in front of the camera in order to see the sensor which severely restricts its usefullness. This is certainly the case with my camera. Have any Oly owners had practical experiences with such a device if so could you please post your findings back here. Thanks.
