Why do people disappoint of the Df that's not a mirror-less? Why do they fancy of mirror-less camera? They all said ML camera are much smaller and lighter. It may be correct in some point, but don't forget, their sensor are mostly much smaller, if they came out with a bigger or full frame sensor, then the size will not be much different, besides, if using with a full frame lens, it will still heavy and big!
Df is already the smallest and lightest full frame DSLR ever made, why does it to be M. less? People always said that the Mirror-less camera will take over the DSLR in the future. I don't think so!

Sony has several mirror-less cameras that are full frame.

Yes, I knew that. I don't see that much different in weight and size comparing to the Df. In fact they drain the batter so fast because of the EVF.
Tell you the truth, I made a 10 day trip to Alaska with my Df and come home with more than 1200 pictures without changing one battery. I had been just keeping shooting and forgot about the battery till the day coming back home! That' s amazing! I think that's because I have seldom used the LCD screen, and switch off the camera when not taking any picture.

I purchased a spare battery for my Df, I have yet to need it. Every once in a while I will rotate just to keep them both fresh. And I leave my camera turned on all day when I'm out shooting, or when driving around. The camera's auto off switch works well. In the winter I go weeks without charging, and the camera goes with me everywhere. Good weather it is checked weekly.

Yes, I don't need change battery so often even I have two more spare. If you use the Df with MF lenses the battery will even last longer, because it doesn't need any power to drive the lens.

There won't be a new Df as there is nothing can be done.

Since they were first introduced I've had my eye on the Nikon Df -- as a lighter, smaller backup to my D810. Have read every review and opinion on it that I found. Many aspects on it that I like; some I wish Nikon would change.
That has led me to wonder when -- and, if -- Nikon would introduce the 'next generation' of the Df. And, if so, what changes it would incorporate.
I know that Nikon keeps their cards close to chest until last moment. But, thought that with the introduction of the new D5, and with the time passed since Df came out, something might be cooking ... Or, not.
So, my inquiry is whether anyone has 'heard', or read about whether there will actually be a next generation -- or, was this was a one time attempt. And, obviously, when it might surface and what might be changed.

IMHO Nikon has too many camera models and considering the down turn in DSLR sales its not likely the DF will be updated.

I would like to have interchangeable finders, and the ability to shoot 16-bit TIFF.

You mean interchangeable image ground glass of the view finder, yes it's a good idea!
You can shoot NEF (raw in Nikon) and save it to TIFF in computer.

I don't understand what you mean by "nothing can be done". Are you saying Nikon can't upgrade the processor or sensor, can't offer interchangeable viewfinders, can't make mechanical improvements?

I mean the entire finder, not just the focusing screen. I use a DR-5, would love to have a high-mag finder.

That’s what I do, and it’s simple enough, but it would be nice to be able to skip that step.
Everything else about the Df is about ideal for what I do. The threaded shutter button for a cable release is especially convenient, fooling with a cord can be a pain when moving from one set-up to another in the field.

Upgrading the processor and sensor is actually the easiest thing and not expensive. However this fact won't get Df owners to upgrade nor pulling in new buyers. Interchangeable viewfinders and making the body all metal would increase the cost too much.

You mean the DR-5, the angle view eye piece. I do have the DG-2 eye piece magnifier for using MF lens.
The shutter release cable I'm using is a flexible metal cable that won't tangle and is find for me.
