Since they were first introduced I've had my eye on the Nikon Df -- as a lighter, smaller backup to my D810. Have read every review and opinion on it that I found. Many aspects on it that I like; some I wish Nikon would change.
That has led me to wonder when -- and, if -- Nikon would introduce the 'next generation' of the Df. And, if so, what changes it would incorporate.
I know that Nikon keeps their cards close to chest until last moment. But, thought that with the introduction of the new D5, and with the time passed since Df came out, something might be cooking ... Or, not.
So, my inquiry is whether anyone has 'heard', or read about whether there will actually be a next generation -- or, was this was a one time attempt. And, obviously, when it might surface and what might be changed.

WILLIAM!!!

I used to wait for the photo magazines every month in the sevnties. We used to wait 2-3 years for EVERY ONE new model from Nikon, Canon and in my case Pentax, Olympus, Minolta.

Just how hold is the DF??

OH YES... I know... now the new models rattle off the line every.... OK what time is it again???

And every one is promised to make a professional photographer out of me..... Just like every three years in the Seventies.

I can't answer your questions... What's a DF?

FWIW Nikon Rumors says one is coming in 2017.
I'm happy with mine the way it is.

B&H Photo currently offers the Df for $2,747 (body only). If you want a real deal: KEH has a Nikon Df user manual for sale in Excellent condition for $12 but does not have a used Df in stock. The minute you buy ANY camera another one will be announced the following day that will SOUND like it might be better. Purchase paralysis can kill you.

They are officially out of production according to Dodd Camera! They have a demo, but have great difficulty finding a new one anywhere. I would never get rid of my Df, but could see myself with another one. Two is a good number!

Many think that the Df is a failure and a lot of improvements can be made. To me the Df is far from perfect but to improve upon what it is now is very difficult. So really although Mac heard something in the rumor I suspect there isn't another version of the Df.
I also think they stopped the production of the Df before they started the production of the D4s as they both came from the same factory.

I know many think of the Df as a failure like you said, or a gimmick camera. I will assure you of one thing, no one that has owned and used one would think that. There are few purchases that I have made in my 75 years that I've been happier with. Of my 4 camera's, including the D7100 none get used as much as it does.

I have many cameras but only 2 DSLR's and that including the D70s I just got a month or so ago for $30. The other is the Df I had since December 2013. So like I said the Df is far from perfect but it's the best DSLR for me. Although it's far from perfect I think it's difficult to improve upon what it is.

I agree, but then as far as I know they have yet to make that perfect camera

Good luck, folks are still waiting for a replacement for the D300. You can bet that if Nikon can get all the oldies to buy a camera that looks like an old Nikon FM,(Df) and if they sold enough of them to make it profitable for them they will, at some time in the future, bring out another type of camera that will make you want it. The history of Nikon has been to introduce a new flagship (D5) incorporating new features. Then, produce other cameras that have SOME of the features introduced in the flagship model. Sort of like the Corvette, Chevy likes to put new and innovative items in that car and see how they go with the consumer, if the new features work out they are incorporated into other models down the road. So, for all of you D300 and D300s owners, hope springs eternal !!!!!!!!!!!

My father was into model trains big time, I swear it gave him about 10 extra years. Kept him going, train shows, train buddies, train this and train that. Hobbies are good for the soul.

Yes, it has been a while. Maybe they put more effort into updating cameras that sell faster, rather than more specialized bodies.
