Billyspad: Good observation. And I like your use of "worryingly" here. Don't think I've seen that word before. It looks good in print but doesn't quite roll off the tongue😊

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/worrying A fine word my man and happy to have introduced you to it. As for rolling off the tongue mine happens to be 15 inches long which makes me a bit of a babe magnet I have found!

A good example of how this is being formalized as something to expect and admire is Fox News, which is known as a pervayor of misinformation. There is a UHH member who states that Fox News is the only TV he watches. For people who do not know how to think critically about information they are exposed to, Fox News seems to be some kind of panacea - their format panders to their fears and concerns about what's going on with seemingly easy answers to these concerns. There is balance in the real world that many people do not have a clue about. It is up to us individually to understand what this balance would be in a more equitable world, and to recognize the ways in which the world we live in does not meet these standards. Anything that appears to throw things into a greater imbalance should therefore be suspect.

This is one way that idiocy is spreading. Education about the reality of the world does not require a college degree, but there seems to be a problem disseminating real information about this.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned a predecessor to all of the above, the short story called "The Marching Morons" by Cyril M. Kornbluth which was published in 1951 - you can find it in some Sci-fi-Fi anthologies but it foresaw the rise of stupidity...

Death and stupid have a lot in common. When your dead you do not know it and the people around you suffer and the same applies to stupid

Funny. You must be speaking in jest. No one's tongue is 15 inches long - it would hang down to your navel, and wouldn't fit in your mouth. We would have to see a photo to believe this (hint, hint). However, if true, you would never need Viagra when you're older, because.... as long as you maintain it as a very strong tongue. LOL

The Declaration Of Independence is nothing but a letter of complaint to Mad King George III. It has no force in law, and is NOT the foundation of anything. The Constitution Of The United States IS our foundation, and IS The Primary law here. Educationally challenged people are always confusing these two documents. If you are going to expound upon such matters, bother to learn what you are talking about.

You are missing the point. Weather or not, the declaration is law or not, it is still one of our founding documents. The single most important thought as stated in the declarationis-We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights...... That concept is central to the constitution. To dismiss the declaration as merely a letter of complaint is exactly the kind of historical revisionist teachings that the early progressive proponents sought to inflict upon the people of later generations. It has apparently worked in your case.

My son collects rare movies and gave me a copy of "Idiocracy" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiocracy (not to be confused with ideocracy). This movie is based on the premise that ignorant, parasitic people tend to reproduce in greater numbers than highly educated people and in hundreds of years, the average intelligence of the population will decline to the point where society can barely survive, let alone advance intellectually or morally. The movie's a satire but the theme is chillingly believable and anecdotally, jerryc41's link shows the kind of people out there ready to take the low road. And considering how we're dumbing down our educational system, perhaps we're already headed down that road. Thoughts?

Just look at the opposition to the newly proposed immigration laws that would change immigration as it would be based on a system of meritocracy , not quotas in order to acheive diversity , a diversity not rooted in assimilation . This current system will eventually lead to national and cultural failure , breed generations of dependents who care nothing of the country and the American citizens whose taxes pays to feed them . Common sense should embrace self preservation not self destruction . What is happening with this new generation ?

"It is the 'dumbing down' of politicians that is the real worry. Educated people 'see the faults in society' but can't do much about them."

After being in education for well over 3 decades, and recently retired. I left with a wonderment as to what in God's name the future holds for the upcoming generation.

While disturbing if accepted as the way of the future, I personally find idiocracy amusing and worth a chuckle as I bear witness to the many inventive ways idiots have found to self destruct. Darwin was right on target, but societies, religions, political parties and ambitious leaders have taken Darwin's observations to a whole new level. As sad as suffering may be, we bring so much of it upon ourselves through greed and dependence. Those who strive to grow and are willing to adapt will be the ones who populate the future. In the meantime, enjoy the show.

I have question for you all: can you tell me what is the difference between people and animals? (here is help - you can see it only after they are dead) Answer: after animals - all there is left are ashes. After people there is photography, literature, classical music, or music, architecture, inventions, paintings ... There is more to it. Attending politically incorrect Eng. school in Europe, I had to take biology - living species are in horizontal lines beginning with single cell organisms - continuing with fish, birds, cats, dogs, cows, horses, monkeys - all the way up to Homo Sapiens - that us. Within each horizontal line - there are highly valuable individuals on one side and less desirable individuals on the other side. Lets pick up dogs: German Shepherds, Labradors, Rottweiler's - highly valuable breeds, protecting properties, guiding blind people - you see the picture? On the other side Chihuahuas, Poodles - impossible to protect or guide ... I have one of those at home (King Charles) - he cannot protect or guide, but, he is a professional lover. It is the same picture with people. On the one side doers and go getters - making things happened, paying taxes - on the other side worthless takers, drug abusers and criminals. It is unfortunate truth, that society is changing for the worse. (I know - in front of the Got - we are all equal - but we are not there just yet).
