Converter on the 200-400 work a lot better than on the 200-500. Aside from the wider aperture I find it to be sharper. But the 200 - 400 is sooo heavy.

I have found over two seasons working with the 200-500 and the 200-400 on the D4s and D500 little difference in IQ between 16X24 prints from both lenses.

I wouldn't expect you would. If you used a 36 mp camera you would see the difference.

Yes, I can see where there MIGHT be a difference (discernable?) in the corners of a 36MP FF......

That must make you a better cook!!! I hate when some ahole comes up to me when I have my D7200 W/200-500 & makes a stupid comment like "is that ever a nice camera, I bet you get really nice pictures with it" I knew I should have bought good surgical instruments instead, then I could have been a brain surgeon

I usually take it in the spirit of what he/she intended - to be complimentary, and coming from a position of ignorance. They really are trying to be nice, but just don't know any better.

Another thing that you could do is rent the lens and teleconverter and use them too see what you think of them together, I did that this past summer and when I first held 200-500 thought that is a lot of weight, after about 1 hour out with it mounted to a D7100, I was just hand holding it it might be good to bring a tripod along if you have one but for flight shots I found that hand held was better and I am a hobbyist level photographer. The one thing I did learn and notice and if you look on Nikons site you will find out that with a teleconverter, with some of them you can lose your autofocus use.

This Picture was taken with the Nikon 200-500 mm and they where on a island in the St. Croix river area about 350 yards away.

And yes by the way the previous photo was cropped the original was lost due to a bad card.
