No, I simply have an appreciation for good cameras and good lenses.

Why do you feel you have to have a D750. If you think it will take better pictures, you are wrong. The photographer takes the picture, not the camera. If you never understand that, you will keep spending money. What will you do when a newer, more expensive mode comes out.

I may look at this a bit different from some photographers but for me I tend to be very specific . Full frame for for wide angle scenerys , landscapes etc and crop sensor for sports wildlife etc . Not saying either can't be used vice versa but for me I just prefer benefits each different sensor provides .

Folks. I am in the process of selling all my photo gear and will end up keeping only the D7100 with a 50mm prime lens. I am doing all this to defray the cost of of D750 which I have convinced myself that I must have. I had not realized the value of the gear I am selling and I believe the money recouped from all the equipment I am selling on ebay will be almost enough to buy the D750 with 24-120 kit. I was going to put the D7100 body on ebay but now I feel I do not truly need to sell the D7100. The key question is - whether there is any use of a second camera which is a DX ?

If you can, keep it. I love having a full frame and a crop sensor camera. And since both can (don't buy DX lenses) use the same full frame lenses, you don't need two sets of glass. In fact, full frame glass is generally better quality than most of the crop sensor lenses. Generally DX lenses tend to be entry level and full frame tend to be better built and have better specs. (this is a generality as there are a few excellent DX lenses and some really bad full frame lenses, but the good full frame go all of the way into professional category and there are very few if any crop sensor professional DX lenses. Most of the pro's that I know carry a crop sensor camera but ONLY use full frame glass.

I would not keep it , as you said you may be able to pay of your D750 with the cash in selling that d7100 , but the money will be less every month and year you keep it , and most of that cash must be in the lens that your selling with it , cause the 7100 body alone will only bring in 4 or $500 at the very most , and if you ever feel you need a DX body get a used D3200 and one normal 36mm lens or the 18-105 nikon vr
Lens .

I have a 7000 and 7200 and a 750 they all work great eBay gets penny's on a dollar back ups are great and I have 5 kids always I need

I use my D7100 with Nikon's 80-400 to get that up close wildlife shot that I would miss with a full frame.

Keep it a year or two and see. If you use just once it will be worth it.

I have both and use both. All but one of my lenses are full frame (17-55/f2.8 is the exception). I use the 750 for wide angles/landscapes and lower light, and the 7100 mostly outdoors in good light and for distance.
What is your backup camera for your 750? Or do you not have a need for a back up camera?

When I purchased my D750 I had intentions of still using my D7100 as a backup. After several months, I realized that I had not touched my D7100 and sold it to help expand my lens collection.

Absolutely no reason whatsoever to keep the 7100.
If you keep it it will eventually be worth next to nothing and you'll have to give it away.
Better get what you can out of it.
If you could afford both, you wouldn't be selling everything...., get rid of it!!!

If he had a telephoto that works on both you get extra reach from the crop factor. If he shot weddings and extra body is needed.

Folks - thanks a million for your viewpoints. My D7100 has about 1000 shutter clicks and hence very close to new. I checked on ebay - they generally go for around $500. After paypal and ebay steal from me - I may get around $440. I am not a pro photographer. Barely a photographer. It is tough enough to carry one dslr with its accessories and two is impossible. I know D7100 is a fantastic camera but I need to look at the practicality of every having the need to use both. I will put the D7100 on ebay.

I would suggest you contact KEH to see what they would offer you for the body. With only 1000 clicks on the shutter, you may be surprised. I sold a D7000 to them several months ago and I ended up getting more for it than I would have gotten by selling it on eBay. They will pay shipping and you will have a quote within a week. They also have the opportunity for you to put in to a formula certain characteristics about what you are asking them to buy and it will give you an "estimate" of what they would pay you. Once they have received your body and examine it, and grade it, they will give you a final offer. I was very satisfied with their service and quote.

You should not be in such a hurry to lose money on your investment! Having a back-up camera is always a good idea. What if the new camera has a problem and you have to send it out? Also, you can sell all your DX lenses, and use the FX lenses on the D7100. That 1.5x crop factor helps for taking photos of wildlife. I suggest you take the camera off of ebay and wait a while before making a final decision. Also, you might get a better price elsewhere.

Perhaps it is difficult to carry two cameras, but I take both of my cameras with me, the DX with a long zoom on it, the FX with a short, wider-angle zoom. Then I can take the one that is more appropriate to what I am shooting when walking around. Actually, I am planning on buying the Cotton Carrier system for carrying two cameras, because having too much equipment in a backpack has given me problems in the past! Peak also makes some good systems [and many others make them, too].

Basically cropped is best for telephoto use (wild life) and FF cameras are great for wide angle and landscape and general photography. If you are not into nature and telephoto use their would be no reason for saving the D7100. The low light ability of the D750 is a real plus over the D7100, and the articulated screen and every thing about it beats the D7100 except for telephoto use.
