Every bend in the road is a new experience. The Chapel of the Transfiguration was my favorite, but there are historic ranches, the river ,and all that majesty. Best advice: early morning and at sunset.
Great views/shots from the top of Signal Mt in GT. You can drive up. There is a back road drive (dirt road) between GT and Y. A little rough, but packed full of great shots -- if it's still there. Wish I was going again. Have fun.
Ob, it would help me to help if you could tell me is you are fling in and at what airport? We are looking at a very big area and how long are you going to be able to devote. I have been going to YP/GT/Teton for 73 years and all four seasons. All that is mentioned are great ideas, but I would want a logical plan. Can you help me with your info. I plan trips in the next four months God will. I am recovering from some Med issues.

You will love GT and YNP. They are awesome and photo opportunities are uncountable. If possible, I suggest spending at least twice as long as you have planned. Our first time there in 2014 we were almost overwhelmed and felt as if we had too little time.
I recommend buying a guidebook (There are plenty) ahead of time and studying it. Prior to our trip I bought "Compass American Guides: Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks (Full-color Travel Guide)" and it was very helpful. We referred to the guidebook many times before our trip (and during) and had general knowledge about the various features when we arrived. Without a guidebook and some research online we would have been completely overwhelmed.
I regret being physically unable to hike up the hill to look down at the Grand Prismatic Spring. I believe that would be a fantastic view and photo op. One of my main wishes was to see wolves and our guidebook directed me to the right place at the right time. We plan to return to GT and YNP this fall or next spring.

We will be driving to Colorado Springs, then to the Grand Teton and then to Yellowstone.
OB so what route will you be coming in via Jackson which hiway how many days do you have.
Paloviejo added a link to my blog at
www.bestofthetetons.com (thanks to him/her for doing that!) I've lived here 31 years, so I know the area fairly well. My mission statement for the site is "What I would like to know, and need to know if planning a trip to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole". I load the site with that kind of information, and lots of photos! There are lots of feature posts about specific places to see, maps, weather, web cams, and important area links.
Others gave you good info on Yellowstone
Hope Best of the Tetons helps! MJ
It's been decades since I photographed Yellowstone, but I must say, back then, Hayden Park was my favorite area for wildlife.
Try Yellowstone lake at sunrise-Incredible shots. Also upper falls in Canyon at around 9:30 for rainbow. Also some good elk shots around there. Got that info from internet looking for photo opportunities in Yellowstone lake. The park is full of opportunities. In Grand Tetons on highway north out of town toward Yellowstone is a famous place to take pics of Tetons with barns in foreground. The falls in the park and the wildflowers should be great this year.
also the museum there is incredible

We also went through Colorado Springs on the way to Yellowstone (from the Bay Area), but our route went via Mt. Rushmore. If you haven't been to Mt. Rushmore, it and the Black Hills are amazing and not to be missed. We thought Crazy Horse was a rip-off, but the rest of the area is spectacular. Go to the evening program at Mt. Rushmore as well as visiting during the day (we were there four times in a day and a half). Also, when you drive the Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road, ask a ranger which way to go. In the "best" direction you will drive through tunnels and be presented with Mt. Rushmore through your windshield rather than your rear view mirror. The drive from there (we spent the night in Spearfish SD) is really nice too. We went via U.S. 14 through the Bighorn Mountains and Cody; a really pretty drive. We stayed at the Yellowstone Lake Hotel and would do so again. As previously mentioned, Jenny Lake is beautiful and make sure you drive to the top of Signal Mountain for amazing vistas (bring your wide angle lens).
