Spell Check

Do most computers have spell check? I have a Mac and it corrects spelling and some grammar. Could it be that all computers have spell check but users turn it off!! Or is spell check specific to Apple products? What does this have to do with photography you ask. It has to do with legible posts.

My PC doesn't by default. Individual programs like MS Word have it. Personally I don't prefer spell check. It's usually too aggressive in trying to second guess what I'm writing. By habit I go back over what I type and edit it before sending. Most of spell check errors seem to be grammar errors when it thinks I'm trying to use a word in a certain context.

Same with my Apple phone but the computer is much less aggressive.

I use Win10 and it's on by default but you will find some programs and web sites that don't use it.

All my word processors have spell and grammar check but I do not use grammar check as it isn't always the way I wan't my sentence constructed. Also spell check must be carefully inspected for meaning. e.g. I usually have dinner on the "deck" in the summer. If I hit s instead of d my spell check might correct it to "check"; a legitimate word but certainly doesn't make sense.

Some people have computers at least 8 years old. They are now slow, and have lousy processors. And some didn't have spell checkers. Even Smartphones and iPhones today have very good spellcheckers. But sometimes the spellcheckers do what they want to do, and not what you want it to do. This can be corrected if you wish to. But sometimes it could be just one French word you'll never use again. Computer manufacturers are aware of this, and have vowed to correct this in the future. For better or worse?

I am weary of trying to parse UHH posts with bad spelling, horrible grammar, entire paragraphs with no punctuation, posts with incorrect (possibly Spell Check enforced) words (e.g., cannon for Canon), and NO effort to edit and correct titles or text. One would think folks that can afford a $5k camera should be better educated than that, but apparently not. Whenever I encounter a poorly written post (one member's recent "Exposure" posts come to mind, but I don't want to single him out) I stop reading and move to the next post. As a college graduate, I have standards.😎

Spell check shows up in this app on my computer so I get flagged on misspelled words... It does not correct grammar usage though...

Most computers have applications that provide spell checking. It is not a panacea, though, because in most cases it only insures that what is spelled is a word--little effort made to insure that it's the RIGHT word, though. I have my spell checker set to just flag words that aren't spelled correctly so I can make the change myself.
