Hi all. I did do a battery search within the group but couldn't seem to nail down the answers I was looking for.

I need a second battery for my T6i, a 7.2V 1040mAh, LP-E17. I really can't afford OEM so was looking at a replacement battery, such as Floureon. I did look for Wasabi on Ebay and at Amazon but all I could find were "packages"; battery and charger. Don't need the charger.

Anyway, 2 questions;

1) Aftermarket batteries say that theirs is 7.4V. Is that extra .2 worth being concerned over?

2) Have you had experiences with Floureon batteries and if so, what's your take on them?

Thanks in advance for guidance and enlightenment!

I suggest that if you cannot afford a OEM battery it is time to find a new hobby. The battery is one of the most important items you can buy for your camera. And it should always be an OEM. Sorry Charlie.

I also have always used "generic" batteries and have never had any problems.

I bought a two-pack of Wasabi batteries for my T3, and they came with a charger. I usually use the Canon charger, but the Wasabi charger has a special plug for charging in the car if I need to, so that was a plus.

As I and many others have said, too many times, is that camera makers do not make batteries. They buy them from the battery manufacturers and put their own labels on them. It is, therefore, possible that the 3rd party battery that you just bought may in fact be exactly the same batery with a different lebel on it. I have use 3rd party batteries with no problem at all. However if OEM expensive batteries will help you sleep better at night, feel free to throw your money away.

Do you find they don't hold a charge as long as the OEM battery? I've been charging mine in the Canon charger, not the charger that the batteries came with. I wonder if that would make any difference.

You should be very concerned about the "extra" voltage in aftermarket batteries. The circuitry in your camera was designed to run on a specific voltage. That requires a specific battery. If the voltage was a little less, I'd not have a concern, but more is a situation from which I'd avoid at all costs.

I went through that situation some years ago when Mercury batteries were not longer manufactured. I used two 1.35 volt batteries. I found an adapter that works perfectly in converting a 386 battery to not only the size but also the voltage the camera required. I'd never put more voltage through a system than it required.

You can ignore minor differences in voltage. The voltage will vary with age, temperature, load on the battery and make of the battery. My luck with no name batteries for cameras has been very good. If you get a dud, throw it away and get another. The loss is small.

I agree.

No I don't see any difference in the charge! I have one OEM left which I don't use much any more. because now I have six Wasabi for my two camera's 7D, 5D mkll. Actually they last longer, they rated higher mAh.

Hi Bud,
I use mostly OEM and now have only one aftermarket battery left. It is a Digipower. It can be charged in my Canon charger. I think I got it at Best Buy a few years ago. I did have another brand which I got through Amazon and which would never take a full charge so it went in the trash. Don't remember the brand, but I now will only buy buy OEM or Digipower.

I have purchased all different kinds of batteries from both Batteries.com and batteriesplus.com. They are fairly cheap on their stuff.

Let's see: OEM battery $60 each, Wasabi battery 2+charger(chargers do die, get broken, lost, forgotten) $23.99. You put the extra charger in your camera bag and it will be there if you run out of power away from home and can find a plug. Or you can charge two at the same time before you go out.

IMHO, this is excellent advice/information. For the last several years we have used the Wasabi batteries , which we purchased through an online outfit called "BlueNook", in probably 7 cameras. There have been ZERO problems with these batteries. However, I have had an OEM Sony battery fail. It was fairly new and failed on the Isle of Skye in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, I had extra batteries with me. Problem solved. The position we take is to purchase the package of 2 batteries with the charger included. As pointed out, they do go bad or get lost.
