Hi all. I did do a battery search within the group but couldn't seem to nail down the answers I was looking for.

I need a second battery for my T6i, a 7.2V 1040mAh, LP-E17. I really can't afford OEM so was looking at a replacement battery, such as Floureon. I did look for Wasabi on Ebay and at Amazon but all I could find were "packages"; battery and charger. Don't need the charger.

Anyway, 2 questions;

1) Aftermarket batteries say that theirs is 7.4V. Is that extra .2 worth being concerned over?

2) Have you had experiences with Floureon batteries and if so, what's your take on them?

Thanks in advance for guidance and enlightenment!

Bud

You can ignore minor differences in voltage. The voltage will vary with age, temperature, load on the battery and make of the battery. My luck with no name batteries for cameras has been very good. If you get a dud, throw it away and get another. The loss is small.

Thanks Patrick9. I appreciate your quick and informed response. I'm certainly leaning that way.

A lot of the generic batteries will not charge in the Canon chargers because of the electronics in the battery. A spare charger is nice to have.

I've had very good luck with Wasabi and Watson betteries and have found both available without a charger. Look at listings on B&H Photo and Adorama to find what you are looking for. Harold may have a good point about possible incompatability of Canon chargers - it may be smart to get an extra 3rd-party charger too. /Ralph

I agree with the comment. I would spring for the Wasabi twin pack with charger. The charger also comes with a couple of adaptors. One of them will allow you to charge your battery from the 12 VDC accessory socket in your car. It's worth the extra few bucks.

And these options are better than buying OE and no worries?

Let's see: OEM battery $60 each, Wasabi battery 2+charger(chargers do die, get broken, lost, forgotten) $23.99. You put the extra charger in your camera bag and it will be there if you run out of power away from home and can find a plug. Or you can charge two at the same time before you go out.

As I've posted before, I'm not a fan of Wasabi batteries.

Also, the real voltage of these batteries when charged is 8.4 volts. You can change the laws of advertising, but not the laws of physics.

Guess I need to tell my Wasabi batteries that they don't really work. We use them in 4 different cameras and have for the last 3+ years.

Wow, that's 2 other Buds on here now other than me that makes 3 of us.

Bud, don't use aftermarket batteries. Take my word for it they are no good. Use OEM Canon batteries and you won't have to worry. I've purchased at least 4 aftermarket batteries and they all died, or shorted out, or simply didn't last as long as the OEM batteries.

I use aftermarket batteries in everything with no problems. I especially like those chargers that can be used at home or in the car.

Just be careful that the batteries don't expand. I had several that seemed a little too tight to fit in the camera. New ones were sent to me. Now I'm very careful with all batteries and how they fir in the camera.

Gee, I must be very lucky!
I've never bought an OEM replacement battery. I've bought compatible batteries, usually incredibly cheap ones, and I've never had any problems with any of them or the equipment I've fitted them to. All the cheapo batteries I've bought over the last fourteen years or so are still working.
Whatever make or type of re-chargeable batteries you buy/use it is important to treat them the same way. From new fully charge them. Then fully discharge them --- not by shorting them to flat but by using them until your camera says they are fully discharged. Then fully charge them. Repeat the full charge/full discharge at least twice from new. It is best to continue this procedure throughout the life of the battery. Fully discharging the battery and then fully recharging the battery each time will ensure the longest life from the battery. Both the longest overall life of the battery and the longest usable life from each charge.
My stills camera batteries are six years old and my video camera batteries are about fourteen years old. I have the OEM batteries that came with the cameras and the cheap extra batteries and they all have the same performance. The only difference to choose between them is the purchase price.

I use Wasabi and Kapaxen in my Canon, Nikon, and Sony cameras and video recorders and appreciate the cost savings and extra chargers and hardware in the kits. Never had a problem.
