If you want to stay with DX, the D7500 would be a good choice, and the D500 would be excellent. I got an email from a dealer yesterday about Nikons being on sale. Hunt's Photo, asamiljan@huntsphoto.com

"Nikon D500 Body $1,799.95
Nikon D500 Body with 16-80mm VR Lens $2,399.95
Purchase a D500 and receive a FREE MB-D17 Battery Grip ($399.95 value) and FREE SD Memory card and spare battery!"

"Nikon D750 Body $1,499.95
Nikon D750 Body with 24-120mm VR Lens $1,999.95
Purchase a D750 and receive a FREE MB-D16 Battery Grip ($399.95 value) and FREE SD Memory card and spare battery!"

Why do you want to change? Most change because they think a new model camera will take better pictures. Good chances are you will never see the difference. If you are going from DX to FF, then all new lenses are in order. I use 4 DX cameras with all FF lenses, except one, a 35mm, f1.8. Cameras are D70S-IR, 2-D100, and a D200. Enter photos in competition every month and no one can tell what a camera I am using. The photographer takes the picture, not the camera.

Yes, wait for the D7500, unless you get a bargain D500 at almost the same price as the D7500.

Now is the time, they are including a battery grip with both camera's. And even better get the lens combo with the D500 and save even more. Same with the D750, OH the choices, I am beginning to feel the itch, I think I should scratch it, but what will my wife think, OH NO!!!

You might check, the D750 full frame may take Dx lenses. The D810 does, I tried one on my D810. It works and I think the MPs dropped from 36 to 24mp. You can find some great deals on Nikon FX AF film lenses and they are great glass and work with D750,

If you don't want to make the jump to full frame then go to d7200. Adorama. Cameta and others have them on sale

Nikon D500 w/battery grip is now $1,800. That's a nice price for a great DX camera. The D7500 looks like it could be a good option based on the released specs. If you want a smaller body that weighs less that may be a deciding factor.

National Camera of Twin Cities announced the D750 for $1500 with free grip and they have free shipping.

Hi Rick;
I traded my D5300 for a D500 and I am very happy with the decision. I looked at the D750 and D7500 in my research. For a DX format, the D500, with extremely high iso, seems the best way to go - battery is on promo and free. I pair with a 18-300 zoom which means I carry only one lens. Advantage of D7500 is less weight if that is important.

Yes, Nikon is running specials on a few of their cameras. I bought the d750 last year and love it. The price for the camera plus kit lens(24-120)is 1999.00. Includes the battery grip as well. If you are considering it and don't have any fx lenses, the kit would make a lot of sense. It is a wonderful lens. Nikon usually charges about 1100.00 for this lens alone. With the kit price, lens cost is about 500 bucks or so-big savings. Battery grips go for about 350.00. This is an excellent deal if you want to go fx.

Consider the benefits of an articulating screen. The D5xxx line has much more versatility than the D3xxx line..

So true, so observant, but it can be pre ordered. And to quote Nikon it is "just released".

I'd buy a D7200, refurbished or used. Since you already have DX lenses, it represents great value for the money. If you can wait a few months, great deals will be had on a glut of used D7200s as people trade them for new D7500s.

The dirty little secret of used cameras and lenses is that many of them have very little wear and tear (few shutter actuations). Plenty of folks buy nice cameras and don't know what to do with them, or they come down with a bad case of the "I need a full frame sensor" disease. KEH, B&H, Adorama, and Cameta Camera are great sources of carefully rated gear. KEH and Cameta include a six month warranty on used gear. B&H and Adorama used gear warranty is 90 days.

VERY FEW folks truly NEED a full frame sensor, or know how to squeeze the best out of it, or have the funds for the full frame glass. It's certainly an okay purchase if you have the need or the cash to get one, and can be a wise purchase for some professionals, but in most cases, your knowledge is way more important than your gear.

I had a D7200. and downgraded to the d3300 because I needed a lighter camera.I can honestly say I see no difference in the quality of the pictures.
