I have a Nikon D3300 and would like to upgrade my camera. My lens system is DX..but Nikon has great deals on D500 and 750. Or should I wait for the D7500?

I shoot 50% landscape-sunsets-moon-stars. The remaining 50% are just general pictures.

Thoughts and recommendations?

Thanks..

Unless you are willing to upgrade your lenses to FX for the D750, go for the D500.

Nikon D500 w/battery grip is now $1,800. That's a nice price for a great DX camera. The D7500 looks like it could be a good option based on the released specs. If you want a smaller body that weighs less that may be a deciding factor.

A lot depends on how much your willing to spend. The next step from the D3300 will be the D5xx series, like the D5300 or the D550. Next step will be the D7xxx series, like the D7200 and so on. Hope this helps.

The D3300 is discontinued now, but still a very good, first buy entry level camera. IMO, an upgrade from your camera would be a D5500 or a D7100/7200. If you upgrade to a full frame camera, D750, you would have to purchase FX lenses to pair with it. The D7500 has been announced, but won't be on the market until June. I would recommend the refurbished D7200. Prices vary. B&H Photo may still be selling them for $789. Good luck.

Current promotions on Nikon at B&H (should be similar at Adorama and Cameta)

The D5500 is included in list.

D750 or D7200 is a better fit than the D500 given what you like to shoot.

I have the D7000 and the D7200. Both are great cameras. They both hold 2 SD cards, shoot video, and take great photos. I like the built in wifi on the 7200, something I thought I would never use and have used it a lot! Quick wedding posts, a retirement party or nonprofit events that I can get to social media quickly.

The Controls are comfortable and easy to get to. It is decent preset programs that I can hand to my non photo husband and he can take great pics without having to worry about settings.

In my opinion, the d500 is a great action camera, but if you do not shoot a lot of sports or birds in flight, it is a bit of an overkill. The d7200 would be a better replacement for the d3300. Also, unless you are ready to spend thousands of dollars in lenses, the d750 would not give you that much of an improvement. While it is a great camera, the d7200 with a 24mm lens would be great for landscape, sunsets and stars. A good zoom lens, such as the 18-300 or 18-200 mm lens would be great for general pictures. When upgrading your lenses in the future, try to stick with FX lenses, then when you are ready to upgrade to a full frame camera there will not be a huge need to upgrade your lenses as well. Happy shooting and good luck with whatever you decide.

I don't believe the OP requested lens recommendations. However, the 18-140 is significantly better than those you mentioned.

I took a lot of really great pictures with kit lenses, I believe it taught me how to push my camera. When I stepped up to better glass, it was that much easier to get seen and low light.

You can get really good deals on refurb D7200 and it fits what you want to shoot. If you're willing to buy new glass, then D750.

D7200 refurb would suit your needs very well. Great features and good pricing.
