As I said, I'm almost 70. Switched out this past November from my IPad Air2, with 128 gig to a 12" IPad Pro with 256 gig memory. I sync with ITunes regularly, and prior to a trip, I get rid of a lot of stuff I don't need on it for a trip, and haven't come close to filling it. Just returned from 3 weeks in Costa Rica, shooting at least 500 shots a day, maybe half keepers, and filled it about half way. You need to remember to delete your " Recently Deleted" album daily.

Good system.

I am 70 years old and getting ready for a "my bucket list" trip. I do NOT own a laptop. Is there a device or way to download my pictures from the SD card (I have a Sony A7II) to some sort of portable device while traveling? The sole purpose to safe guard the images on the SD card....just don't want anything to happen to them. Thanks for any suggestions. Dave.

Similar thread from yesterday.

This Toshiba rates much higher for a third of the price.

From the description: "Powered directly from the USB port on your PC..." Kind of useless to someone who does "NOT own a laptop."

Ah, of course. In that case, let me recommend one of these. I have a couple of these things, and I use them all the time for cell phones, etc.

I have been using an older version of the NEXTO DI ND2901 1TB HDD for almost 4 years.
It has never let me down.

Kinda pricey for a small box. I'd rather spend that on a small computer.

There would still be problems. The battery pack would block the only access to the drive and one would still need software to move the files... unless I am missing something.

But the Toshiba requires a computer to use it.

If there is a way to download directly to a hard drive without an interface I haven't found it for my Nikons.

The WD drive includes a card slot and uses your phone as a wireless controller.

There are devices for about $40 that will act as the interface also. But they are an additional thing to keep track of.

I have a 12" MacBook with 512GB of storage. I take it with me on every trip. Plenty of space for all my photos, plus you can see immediately if you are happy with your photos. Almost everybody in the world has internet, so you can send photos to family and friends. To download images from camera to MacBook you need the camera USB cable and the Apple USB to mini-USB adapter cable. Few years ago I bought a Seagate portable back-up drive which I don't use anymore. I also take plenty of SD and CF cards with me,
so I don't have to erase any. On Monday I will be traveling to Death Valley, Sequoia Nat. Park and Yosemite Nat. Park for a total of 12 days, and my MacBook comes along.

The WD Passport does the same thing for much less.

You won't find much wireless in the National Parks. Some (e.g. Death Valley) have it at the visitor center but it often doesn't work and is sketchy and slow when it does. You might find it in the hotels.

This thing does it all. You control it with your phone, using wifi, through a free app. It has a card slot and a usb connection for a hard drive. Or, with a usb adapter for another card, you can back up to it.

Thanks for reminding me. I got one of these over the summer, and I've used it as a battery. I'll have to try the other features.

I bought the Apple adapter for SD cards and transfer my pictures from the SD card to my iPad.
