I am 70 years old and getting ready for a "my bucket list" trip. I do NOT own a laptop. Is there a device or way to download my pictures from the SD card (I have a Sony A7II) to some sort of portable device while traveling? The sole purpose to safe guard the images on the SD card....just don't want anything to happen to them. Thanks for any suggestions. Dave.
Smiling. Seems 70 IS a good age. Thanks for your suggestion. Dave
Dave,
I don't have one of those. Reviews I've read say they work pretty good. Some suggest they are not as good as they should be.
My prefered solution is to take enough SD cards that I can put a new one in every second or third day. I've never had one fail, but if one did I would only lose a portion of my images from a trip.
Where is the bucket list trip going?
Thanks. Going to do the Northwest. Portland, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and then Washington State.

You also have the option to bring more SD cards with you, then you do not have to rely on only once card.
I understand what it is you are after. However, just some food for thought. Years ago my photographic lecturer
told the assembled class, never put a large megabite card in your camera. His maximum suggestion at that time
was no more than 8 GB (different I know if you are shooting video).
His theory was if you lose an 16,20,30 GB card you have lost quite a considerable amount of photographs, whereas
an 8GB card, not as many photographs.
I have kept to his theory, although I have increased to 16GB and no greater (I do not do video).
The suggestion made by 'bsprague' would appear to fulfil your needs, but personally I would be very nervous of going
on your "my bucket list" trip and having a 1TB hard drive stolen or lost with all your photographs on it.
SD cards are relatively cheap nowadays. My advice would be to take a 1TB equivalent, if that is the capacity you think
you will need, in SD cards and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Hope you enjoy your trip and post lots of good photographs on your return.
I'm puzzled, Is it a stand-alone? If so,how do you know the drive is transferring/has transferred all of the images from the card to the drive? Looking at the manual, it appears that it has to be connected to a phone? or computer, and the transfer process removes the data from the card?
I have six 8Gig and two 16Gig cards, and change the card every day or two when traveling. If I'm driving, I take the laptop and save daily.

I number my cards, all in one case (8). Numbers below what is in the camera are "used" since I start off shooting with "1".
I use 64 gig chips, and change them about every 3 to 4 days. Every day I load my pics of the day on my iPad, delete my junk there, and keep all my good ones, in Raw, on my IPad. I put my chip I change out with my money and my passport. I'm also 70, almost. I carry about 15 chips, always enough. If I was going round the world or something, I'd buy more chips.

How much memory does your iPad have? Mine has the basic 16GB.
As I said, I'm almost 70. Switched out this past November from my IPad Air2, with 128 gig to a 12" IPad Pro with 256 gig memory. I sync with ITunes regularly, and prior to a trip, I get rid of a lot of stuff I don't need on it for a trip, and haven't come close to filling it. Just returned from 3 weeks in Costa Rica, shooting at least 500 shots a day, maybe half keepers, and filled it about half way. You need to remember to delete your " Recently Deleted" album daily.
