O.K., I am a modest guy. Only camera I have is a Canon Powershot SX 60 HS. In my opinion, big improvement compared to the SX 50. Got a very sharp picture with full 600 mm zoom and image stabilizer. Now please tell me its shortcomings.

What does this, in any way, have to do with the OP's question?

I guess I am the only oldie around that still uses the D700 as primary camera and the D300 as backup with the holy Trinity for lenses.

I had two choices at the time, I could buy a D700 or a D610 for a little more money, both used. I decided to go with the D610 and I have no regrets.
The D700 was a good FX camera but now it is obsolete when it comes to technology. It is my personal opinion that a camera like it so old should not command the prices it does.
There are superior FX Nikon cameras to the D700 but it seems that there are still those who are very happy with it.

The D700 is my only camera. It does everything I need it to do. I would be much more inclined to adding an extra lens or two than upgrading to the latest and greatest new body.

FLBill: My feelings exactly; I have the Nikon "Holy Trinity" for lenses plus Nikon's 200-500mm f/5.6 ED lens for bird and wildlife shots. The photos produced have been superb!

D700 in the right hands does a very good job. More mega pixels is a need matter. If your work load request make no major changes, the camera will serve you well. For me, constantly shooting in low light environments made the move to the D750 a necessity. Recently, I sold my D700 to one of my students as an upgrade from a D80.

My D-7000 is my back-up to my D-800.

I believe the last accurate count was 59.

What you have written is all unadulterated nonsense. Wish you would have taken the time to be useful and informative with the original topic

I bought my D700 in Dec 2010, along with a 24-70 (2.8) and 70-200 (2.8). This is my first DLSR after having shot film camera's all my life. Though I had been using a point and shoot digital camera for a number of years. This was my retirement gift to myself. Since then, I have also purchased the 105 (2.8) and a 50 (1.8). Also have the SB700 and SB910 and an assortment of filters and a good tripod. I told myself I was not allowed to upgrade to a better camera body until I fully understood the D700. Now, I am getting close, but have to decide between the D750 follow-on or the 200-500. Since I shoot everything from BIF to sports, I really need more reach than my 70-200 with a 2.0TC. So I suspect it will be another year with my D700. But I love the camera and am still not using it to it's full potential.

I have the two D700s that served me well when I was still working. Now, one camera has the 24-120 lens and the other 60mm macro--both Nikon.

Having sold almost everything else, I'm continuing to debate selling the D700s and buying "down" to something lighter and compact and less expensive. Given that I retired three years ago, and still have not let the two cameras / two lenses loose, and influenced by what I've read here today, I'm probably going to keep what I have.

I should add that I also have the attachable battery pack that allows me to increase or decrease the camera weight. AND I loved the camera a long time ago and continue to love it. AND it does everything I ask of it.

Thoughts?

Thanks for listening!

I was shooting with a D300s and D700 and travelling with lenses mounted on both bodies. It was a wonderful way to get everything I wanted to shoot, BUT too bulky. Reluctantly, i traded both (+ $$) for a D810 which allows me to carry only one body, but much more lens swapping. I like the D810, but there was nothing wrong with what I had before. MP's are very over-rated. One of the best shots I have sold is an 18x24 I shot in Italy with a D70s. And it was a JPG capture!

Don't underrate yourself. The camera is secondary to what you bring as skill sets.

Love my 700. Does everything I need. Also have my much older D200. I leave a wide angle lens on this one and it still does a good job.

I will upgrade the 700 when it falls to pieces.
