It is a very nice composition. I like that the whole shadow is visible. The "pose" is perfect. The eyes, nose, hair around the face are all sharp. The depth of focus is perfect. I have two minor distractions. I wonder about are the little white circles, especially to the one to right of the cat. And I think I would prefer to chop off the darker background, but that might be more of a personal preference.

I really like this, Sandra. The lighting is just gorgeous, it looks like soft, early morning sun. Your composition is quite nice, and I don't mind the snow sparkles, in fact, I think they add to the mood of the shot.

Whatever you are paying this cat is not enough. I agree about the little white circles but I am torn about chopping off the darker background. It looks good either way, so like he said - personal preference would rule.

I hope this cat is on your payroll for a long time! Nice image. Beautiful pose. Love the shadow. The dark background at the top doesn't bother me. It is what it is. I do find the little white circles distracting - particularly the one to the cat's left (our right). It's in a darker part of the snow and therefore shows up more.

A technically well-accomplished lovely portrait of a lovely cat comfortably posed in its rich winter pelage.
Beyond all that it's an excellent illustrative example of why snow most often isn't white and why it's values depend on the rules of angles of incidence and angles of reflection. The sun is low, as testified by the cat's shadow, and the brightest values will be seen reflected from surfaces as close as possible to perpendicular to the sun's rays..(like the almost white fur of the cat). The snow surfaces, all more obtuse to the sun's rays, are expectedly grays , blues, and blue-grays - except for the scattered specular reflections.

If I hadn't seen Snicker as a kitten I'd swear blind it was Choo Choo from Top Cat taking a break between takes

Thanks all for taking the time to share your thoughts. It's much appreciated. Dave, I like the observation you made about the snow. This is a good example of the contrast between warmly lit snow and cat and also some cooler snow in the shadows. Erdos, I like the idea of getting rid of the OOF wooded area in back. I think Snicker would look fabulous in nothing but snow. AzPicLady, I hope I have her for a long time. Never thought I'd have a cat, but now that I do I am enjoying her very much.

I like the cat part but would crop off the dark cloud at the top. As for the annoying little white dots there seems to be too many to remove, why not put a star filter on them and make them snow glitter

Snickers is getting all grown up. She is a beautiful cat. I wouldn't try to get rid of all the circles, just that big one by her head. It is the first thing I noticed.

Thank you, Judy. I would love to photograph other peoples cats out in the woods, but I'm having a hard time talking anybody into coming out so early in the morning. Right now a person has to get out there while it's still cold from the night or you will have ticks crawling all over you.

I guess I can understand not wanting to go out so early in the morning, but the threat of ticks later would make it more inviting.
