Which camera is better choice - Nikon D3400 vs Nikon 5300? Or other suggestions....
I would go for a refurb D7100 !!
I have a D3300 and checked in to several options for the 70-300mm lens. I ultimately decided on the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD. If you time it right (when Tamron offers a $100 rebate) it ends up being about $150 less than the comparable Nikon lens.
The only heads-up is that there seems to be some variation in the build quality and it took three tries to get a copy with the image quality the reviews all rave about.
That said, it was easy to exchange them with Amazon, and the images I'm getting now are bright and tack-sharp. This is a fantastic lens to consider.

I am actually selling that lens right now on ebay for a really good price. In my listing I have examples that I shot recently to show how it performs. But I borrowed from paypal to get my 150-600, so the 70-300 has to go.
I upgraded from a D3300 to D5300. No question, the D5300 is much better! I have a Sigma 150-600C and was not happy with it on the D3300, but once I changed to the D5300, the difference was significant. Go with the 5300, you won't regret it.

Hi - I have been reading and comparing DSLRs until I am cross eyed. Not a beginner with camera usage but certainly no expert. I love to shoot sporting events, of course, friends and interesting people, architecture when traveling on vacation. I don't shoot many videos but would like the ease of transferring pictures from camera to online. Right now, quick autofocus is what I need. Been long time since I worked with aperture settings but will work into it.. I like shooting close ups so would like to get a 70-300mm lens with camera - unless there are other suggestions for lens choice.
Money... my Nikon D3300 was stolen. Spending limit is $600 but of course, would like to find a bargain. Would spend little more if camera is really worth buying for its features.

I upgraded from a D3200 to a D5300. I still have the D3200 and use it sometimes because it does have an AA filter, which is useful in some rare cases. But I wanted to be able to bracket exposure and also wanted the flippy screen on the D5300. I got mine from Cameta refurbished by Nikon with 38 shutter clicks for $399 body only. I've been very happy with it. Lots of image making power there, and the auto focus is pretty darn quick!
