Yet we still have the same number of minutes of daylight ... what will the government do about that?

The question is whether the daylight is "used". If it gets light at 6 am and dark at 8 pm, but most people get up at 7 am and go to bed at 11 pm, then that first hour of daylight is "wasted". Push everything down an hour, people use lights one hour less per day - at least, that is the theory.

In revisiting this subject, I am bothered by use of the word "blame". Why does everything have to be blamed on someone??

...and if any of you colonials are confused with clocks being moved forward an hour each spring, rejoice that you weren't in the UK during WW2 when the clocks were brought forward by two hours for the summer!
That said, we older kids thought it wonderful that there would be daylight till 10.00pm during the summer vacation months and we could play long and late, outside! Of course it did mean that younger kids were going to bed in broad daylight but that was somewhat mitigated as during those war years our windows were covered by 'blackout' curtains so that those German bombers couldn't find us and so our bedrooms were dark.
This has me thinking; if any kids read our Chit Chat they are asking each other, "What does he mean Play outside?" " Glad we aren't forced to do that!"

...... and me. I love it - believe it or not, my wife hates it. She likes to sit in the living room and drink coffee with it being light outside before she goes to work. I like it being light in the evening when we have time to do something outside when not at work.

My least favorite time of the year is that month or so when it is dark before you even get home from work. Of course, I no longer have that problem - I retired last October.
