And, according to demography stats, golf is a dying sport and has been trending down for some time. People like to watch the major tournaments on TV but don't have the time or resources to participate. Additionally, courses are expensive to maintain. They have been trying to close some public courses here in the Salt Lake area and probably will in the near future...strange because SLC golf has the 2nd highest participation rate with Hawaii being #1.
Yes, this is what golf suffers from...it is a "deep pocket" sport.

Fortunately, our country is blessed with many deep-pocketed people.

I get my Daily Digest an hr. earlier, so I'm a beneficiary too!
My son-in-law's family is into sports all the time. One day we were visiting at the same time as his parents were. It was the day of the Masters golf tournament. The kids were in the living room watching cartoons, while I was sitting there checking my email on my laptop. My daughter's father-in-law walks in and sits down, looking at the TV. He asks, "You ain't watchin' the MASTERS?"
I replied, knowing exactly what the masters is, "No, I never cared much for tennis."
He just shook his head and went to a different room to watch the masters.

Spectator sports are overrated. Not only do I no longer know the names of all the players, I don't even know the names of the teams anymore.
It is like watching paint Dry

Originally, early WW II era, I believe, it was a plan to give the farmers more daylight time in their fields when farming was much less mechanized.
Some years back, I think it was during the Nixon Administration, there was an attempt to have DST year round. The totally unanticipated problem was that in states at the western edge of the time zones, school kids, especially in the first few grades were out at the bus stops in the dark and were getting hit by cars whose drivers couldn't see them.
Daylight saving time was originally started by Germany during WWII to save daylight hours during the war. Britain adopted it soon after and then the U.S. saw it as a good thing. The war has been over for 60 years and we're still using it. Why?

It was NEVER liked by the farmers, that's just an old myth. It was instituted the first two times during WWI and WWII. It was put into law in the mid-50's, and was only for 6 months of the year. The 3 biggest proponents are the golfing, barbecue and the retail industries. Of course, now it's been expanded to 8 months.....
