When spending thousands for a camera, I would certainly spend a few hundred more and buy from a nationally known, reputable dealer. And, no matter how you look at it, the 5D Mark IV is head and shoulders above the T5i...good luck with your new camera.

I owned a t4i and upgraded to a 5DIII a few years back. There's no comparison in photo quality/capabilities, especially in low light situations. Sounds like you've thought this through pretty well. Go for it, but through a reputable dealer.

Amazon and EBay do not share that reputation.

Whilst I agree with you about eBay my experiences with Amazon (UK and ES) are very good but I always pay the often higher price for buying directly from them rather than one of their 'sellers'.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
A REPLY FROM ADORAMA !

Most receipts for a purchase do not include the serial number on the receipt - at least the last time I looked at them.
But nice try.

And good to see you will price match, or try to price match !
As more people learn of my strategy, it will create problems for the price fixers.
Thanks !

Every unit has a serial number - and the manufacturers know exactly which retailers those serial numbers were sent to.....So if you send a unit purchased from 'Rip-off & Raggit Brothers' for warranty repair and try to pass it off as a unit purchased from Adorama, you WILL be found out.

Buy as cheap as you whether its grey market or green and orange market. Chances of a new camera going wrong and needing repair are minuscule. If it does the world is full of competent camera repair shops who charge reasonable fees and irrespective of what folks say can ALWAYS get parts. As someone said earlier the camera manufacturers have a nice price fixing club going on for a product that very very rarely needs after sales service. Buy and be smart!!!

Buy from one of the big guys. Then return it.
Then buy from the less expensive retailers on ebay or wherever.
If you have a warranty problem - you now have a receipt from B&H or Adorama.

I know - many people are thinking that this not right, unethical, etc etc etc ......
But you know what ?? ...... There is nothing wrong with this.
What is not right is the games these camera manufacturers play with their warranties - for reasons I cant figure out.
There is no such thing as a fake Canon5d. If Canon made it - they should warranty it. It shouldnt depend on where you bought it.
This is all a game by the photo manufacturers to effectively support a price fixing scheme - which we all know is illegal.

If you bought a one year old car from a used dealer, is it still under warranty? of course. Because a warranty is a warranty. The auto companies do not play with the price fixing games that these camera manufacturers all take to an absurd new level.

It is called a "serial number". Canon knows which cameras are grey market. Canon, unlike Nikon, WILL service these products, but will charge you.

You will be amazed at the improvement in going to full frame. I recently bought a 6D from Canon refurbished. I have not looked back!

After waiting for over a year & after much research, primarily on UHH, I'm finally able to trade up from a T5i to a 5D Mark IV. My question relates to price. I almost always buy from B&H or Adorama. However, B&H, Canon, Amazon & Adorama list the camera at $3,499. On the other hand two EBay sites list the camara for less. Deals-all-year at $3,074.99 & Buy-direct at $3,224. I don't want to pinch the last penny but a couple of hundred bucks is nothing to sneeze at. Any advice?

Nothing wrong with saving money. Just make sure the seller is selling a US/Canada camera and not a grey market model. No US warranty on grey market.

I don't know your situation but do you need the full frame , are you enlarging small sections of a picture to another picture, or pixel peeping ff not to There is no advantage , to that camera ,as the crop camera will make a just as good enlargement up to at least 10x8 or more , not to mention the saving on other gear , down loading those pic memory in computer , printer photo copper etc , if you need it .
Go for it , the D500 is as close to the d 800 is in a normal size print as I'm sure canon is with there top crop camera is also

Umm... FF cameras are low light / low noise head and shoulders above Crop cameras in general. As for cropping and printing...resolution has to do with pixels not whether its FF or crop. 1Dx which is a crazy expensive FF is only 18mp but you can get a $400 crop DSLR with 24mp.

...if you can afford FF and the associated avg doubling in prices for lenses...go for it. For indoor pictures in low light up to 3000ISO....its the difference between a great photo and something that looks like you took it off your smartphone. :-)

Go to Pro Photo and spend a little more and support your local brick and mortar.

Buy the 5D IV, and follow up on Helen's offer to help. You will keep this camera for quite some time and I doubt you will find a better deal.

Some of the resposes on this thread are far from the highest UHH standards.

Good luck and enjoy.

There's gray market and there's gray ethics. What you are doing IS unethetical. Just because someone else is a cheat--that makes it ok?

Remind me never to have any kind of transaction with you. It would probably take years for the smell to go away.

If you want to save some money, buy refurbished. Gray market might be fine - maybe. Your choice. What are the chances of it needing warranty work in the first year? That's what you're gambling on. There is a warranty bu the seller, but how good is it. Then you have to consider selling it someday. It will be harder to sell a gray market camera. On the plus side, Canon does repair gray market gear. If it were me, I'd buy a USA model, new, refurbished, or used.

I would only buy from an authorized Canon dealer. If you want a competitive price with B & H, Adorama, ... call Profeel and speak with either David or Ester.
They may very well offer you the same deal and are an authorized dealer. I have purchased Canon from them. (Closed from PM Fri. thru Sat) http://profeel.com
