Actually, the original "consummation" is equally correct. If in doubt, look it up.
I don't doubt that. I was quoting the exhortation to use the word 'sex' to describe the act.

Oh, quite correct, but I like "congress" too.
If you are unsure of what to do, don't do it.

Ah, now you're getting into the area of aesthetics...

I have a client couple who want me to photograph the consummation of their marriage. I've never done this before, but I'm sure there are a few of you Pros out there that have experience at this. Any tips on angles, lighting, location etc. I'm only going to get one shot at this.
Thanks!!
Hi,
I have no doubt that you will get all kinds of answers:
Let me give you some background that may help.
A marriage is not legally complete until it is consummated and can be annulled without divorce proceedings.
In British aristocracy, where property and titles are involved, chairs were put around the bed for family and witnesses to watch the consummation to confirm the marriage is legal. Perhaps this is why this couple are wanting these photographs?
As this couple are requesting these photo's, ask them what poses they want and take it from there. Suggest that they pause the action to turn and smile at the camera etc.
I would take it as a challenge.
Go into it with the idea of producing art.
I am thinking I would only want to shoot before and after the actual consumation.
Set up 2 or 3 video devices that can record the entire event, whether you are in the room or not, including you capturing the still images. I do like the idea of using an intervalometer to grab stills without you there.
I am a romantic at heart, so I would try to show their love and closeness.
It is possible that they are both exhibitionists and have experience with this idea already. I would still push for the video to capture the actual event. You could help them with setup and lighting.
It might be fun to recreate classic nude couples. John and Yoko come to mind. A quick (cautious) internet search could provide inspiration.
Sex happens all day, every day. Some people like to watch, some like to show (and some love to tell!). Of course, there is more pornography out there that any one person could possible view in a lifetime. I would be thinking of classic sex scenes in some of the best mainstream movies that you may be familiar with for additional inspiration.
I bet you will be able to get some images that you would be proud to show publicly.
Don't forget to let us see the best of the best.
Wear a raincoat. If you don't have one I'm sure the groom does.
Something tells me that marriage won't last a year.
I volunteer. I always wanted to do a porno shoot. LOL
What are the local, state, and federal laws concerning this still photography..... printing and distributing this material could be considered porn
In addition this is and should be a personal time between the couple
Personally, I would refuse and steer clear of any further discussion
Take out a good insurance policy to cover the lawsuit the participants will make on your failures. Unless you are a fool the best policy for an amateur wedding photographer is to get out of town before the wedding.
