I have an Epson 1400 which is the older model and similar. Have used it for years and it gives great prints and is problem free. I use Precision refillable ink cartridges with Precision inks. I say buy the Epson and you will be happy with it. Use Precision inks to keep ink costs down.

I've had a 1430 since shortly after Epson replaced the 1400 with it - a little more that 3 years ago. I was running Win7 at the time, but have since transitioned to Win10 without issue. I am very pleased with the prints I make with it from 4x6" to 13x19". The Epson ink can be expensive, but I watch for sales on the Epson site and from various office stores. I've also bought from eBay, but only those that come in Epson original boxes with current Best By dates. I only use Epson paper and have the appropriate 1430 Epson paper ICC files loaded in Lightroom.

Although I don't print photos all that often, I have had no problems with nozzle clogging or banding in my prints. I do use it for my normal printing chores such as boarding passes, etc., and once turned on, I leave it on for the rest of the day.

My only issue has been that about a year ago I started having problems with the wireless connection which caused me to waste several sheets of 11x14" paper and ink. It would print about 2/3 of the way on a page of large paper and then stop, with no way to get it to print what remained. So I switched over to USB and have not had any issues. I would buy it again in a minute, or whatever Epson is offering as a comparable replacement in the future.

PS I buy my ink directly from Epson. Two reasons 1) If you put your self on the mailing list they have sales. I always buy enough to have a complete replacement set at home. 2) If you have a problem they are good and they can see that you buy Epson ink and that they can't say the problem is non Epson refill inks.

I always use the Epson ink & paper, that usually eliminates many problems before they even get started.
Thanks

Epson is #1 printer on my list of the best. I had a 1400 printed with a CISS for 3 years then the pads went bad. Now I bought a Epson WF7610 7610 all in one, wide format. My best buy of over 50 prints for only $160. I put a CISS on it for $35. but ebay has replacement ink for $20. a set. When you buy a printer also look at the ink cost before you buy.

The replacement ink you buy on e-bay for 20.00 a set, is that Epson ink ?
Please explain, what is CISS ?
Thank you for your response.

A few thoughts on the 1430 purchase. I have the Artisan 50, a smaller version of the 1430, same ink, different cartridges. About six months ago I purchased a Pro 100 from Craigslist. Since I have two Epson photo printers and a lot of Epson paper on hand, I decided to do some print testing with my two dye ink printers.

On the same sheet of paper I made a 5x7 print from each printer, using the basic icc profiles that come with each printer for that type of paper. The test image is one used to test printer capabilities, it's calibrate by the maker and requires no adjustment. The Image has a color checker, gray scale and a colorful portrait of a woman. Test prints were compared at my viewing station with 5000k lighting. Test were done on glossy, luster Epson and Canon papers. The matte test was only on Epson paper. Overall the prints were identical. The Epson made prints were just slightly darker on both Epson and Canon glossy and luster papers. The matte test on Epson paper was interesting. Canon has three matte paper profiles, two looked identical to the Epson print. The print using the Canon pro premium matte profile turned out slightly yellowish. Also discovered that printer profiles in the opposite printers don't turn out well.

So here, I think is the consideration; do I buy the Epson 1430 for around $300 or the Canon Pro 100 from B&H
for $130 after rebate and maybe even another set of ink for $125 for a total of $255?

I should note; I purchased the Canon printer for two reasons, the price and the theory that a printer with more that one monochrome ink will produce better black and white print. I have yet to see the difference with these two printers. Both turn out a beautiful black and white prints.

All the positive responses I've received way over rides the one negative review that was on the website that I was looking at.

Good information to know, I sometimes think that with the quality of probably all available printers, we couldn't buy a really bad one, although the cost of ink is a real consideration.
Thanks for your contribution.

I'll check out the Precision inks, love to save a few dollars when I can, but only if my prints don't suffer for it.
I can practice on my old Epson printer.
Thanks for the tip.

Epson printer question

I am considering the purchase of an Epson Artisan 1430 wide format photo printer, if you have one, are you happy with it, is it still printing good after a year and would you buy another one ?
And I do appreciate your responses.
Frank

I have a 1430 and have been more than happy with it. it makes beautiful prints and it's pretty tough. My house flooded last August and right before we evacuated, I put it in the attic hoping that the water wouldn't reach it. We only got 3 feet in the house and it sat in the attic for over five months while I rebuilt the house. South Louisiana heat and humidity, not to mention construction dust in the air. I took it down about a week ago, cleaned it up, and ran a print head cleaning cycle and guess what, it works like a brand new one still!
Epson also has some of the best customer service I've ever dealt with.
