My D500 has had absolutely no issues since purchased in @ November and I've used it pretty hard. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this model. It is Nikon's second best model, behind only the D5. Quite a capable camera. Best of luck.

Have any USHERS encountered an ERR symbol in the viewfinder or LCD of their Nikon D500? I'm seriously considering that model, but after chatting with a fellow UHHER I'm rethinking my choice. What are your experiences with the D500? Thanks to Nikon Bill for his insight.

I listed a post about this problem with the D500 but it seems ADMINISTRATION removes any posts I initiate. Either that or a troll removes my posts somehow. Anyway, I bought my D500 last June and really put it through it's paces this fall. While shooting in January at 10 fps my shutter all of a sudden made a funny sound and stopped working. I looked at the control panel on top of the camera and it was displaying an ERR message. I was in the field so I turned the camera off then turned it back on. It was working fine for a couple of minutes and then the shutter shut down again and the ERR message came back on. So, I sent it into Nikon and they replaced the aperture control mechanism. When I got it back and went out shooting, within minutes the shutter shut down and the ERR message appeared again. This time after calling Nikon they emailed my a UPS shipping label and I sent it in again. Nikon last week emailed me that they found the problem and were going to replace the aperture control mechanism. I called them right away and said,"that is what you did the last time and it did not fix the problem." They just emailed me yesterday and they are going to replace the D500 with a new one. Two of my friends I shoot with in Florida have had the same problem with their D500's. So this is not an isolated incident. Also, Nikon said I would have the remainder of my warranty that was on the original D500, which means I am up in June of this year. Don't understand why if it is new I don't get a one year warranty on it but at least they replaced it. My advice is that if you own a D500 and have this problem contact them at Nikonusa.com and work with them. And to the person that is removing my posts, it is not funny, I am really trying to help people out and by deleting my posts you are not helping other people out.

Yes I do know Nikons, clearly a whole lot better than you do. Aperture ring on lens not locked at MINIMUM aperture results in FEE message. Quit putting out suck rediculously false and mis-leading information and you will look less of a moron..........MAYBE!

I respect you a lot but I am one of those that had the problem with his Nikon D500. The ERR message had nothing to do with the lens connection as I sent both the lens and body to Nikon. They replaced the aperture control mechanism on the D500 and sent it back to me. Next day same err message appeared. Sent it back to Nikon the they wanted to replace the aperture control mechanism again. I phoned them and told them they had already done this but it did not fix the problem. They emailed me yesterday and told me they were going to replace the camera. I have two friends who also own the D500 and they have had similar problems with theirs. And it has nothing to do with the lens connection according to Nikon.

I have the D500 for about 6 months. Shot 15 ice hockey games--about 35,000 images with a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. Never got an ERR message. For me, it's been great.

Well I'm gonna put my two dollars in I've had d500 for a year I found it to be a very durable tough camera body with zero problems I've been using Nikons for 45 years if and when I have a problem with it I take it to the camera shop where they repair Nikons and have it fixed Nikon has a very good warranty I think you'll be very pleased with camera body I have camera lenses that are completely manual and are 35 years old that work flawlessly on d 500 don't worry about if something happens in my experience it won't I encourage you to buy the d 500. If that's what you really want and I assure you it is a fine camera you'll be totally pleased and don't let the haters sway your decision

I have used Nikon for over 48 years and yes, I had a problem with the D500 showing ERR messages and my shutter shut down. Nikon was unable to repair it in two tries so they are replacing it. Yea for Nikon. This is the first Nikon I have had problems with and I have owned over 23 Nikon bodies. Stuff happens but the bottom line is Nikon stood by me.

No errors on my d500 after 26481 clicks. If there were a major issue we would see more complaints and Nikon would do a recall.

When I had a D600 I had an ERR message, camera would not do anything--sent it in and came back fine, no idea what they performed though.

You can get an error message with any camera. I've taken well over 10,000 shots with my D500 and have no problems with it. Recently, I took the D500 and my D4S on a wildlife photography trip and ended up using the D500 more than the D4s.

I have two D500 cameras that have received heavy professional use for a little more than a month with no error messages or other problems. So far the D500 seems to be a great camera and a worthy successor the D300S.

Mine is a year old, 14 months actually past 25,000 and no concern what-so-ever. Knock on wood.

Reading through the posts I first thought it was a common problem. Then I realized you mentioned it three times in three posts. So now it looks more like you and your 2 friends are very unlucky.
