Use your illegals to do the job and the taxes on their labor to pay for it.

Couldn't the Army Corp of Engineers build some temporary bypass for the people who are stranded till the original problem is fixed?

The Army Corp of Engineers knows how to build floating bridges over bodies of water that can support tanks. They also build permanent, sizeable dams. I would be surprised if they did not know how to build a temporary bridge over a relatively small canyon. The whole idea is that they can build these bridges fast. If the roadway is used enough, the motivation should be there.

A sadness for those that haven't seen it. One of the most beautiful places in the US in my opinion. Lunch at Nepenthe outside looking out over Point Sur is memorable. My wife, who went to school in Monterey, took my youngest son on a trip there a couple of years ago. I'm so glad he got a chance to see this lovely place while it was easily accessible.

We had lunch at Nepenthe after hearing about it for years. The flies were so thick you had to keep shooing them away.... It was a beautiful spot, but we didn't really enjoy lunch.

It is indeed a state highway catering to the tourist trade. There maybe some federal funds available, but this is not a federal problem. California needs to re establish it priorities. They wasted way more than that on their bullet train to nowhere.

You may be right, but this is happening all over our country the whole infrastructure seems to be crumbling, whether it is bridges, roads, tunnels or whatever it seems to me that more priority should be given to fixing our infrastructure than what is being done at present. We are the first to help out other countries with their problems how about a little help at home.

In my humble opinion stop giving money to other countries (they don't like us anyway) and use the money to fix up our crumbling infrastructure like this. Couldn't the Army Corp of Engineers build some temporary bypass for the people who are stranded till the original problem is fixed?

Governor Brown has already put in a request to the FEDS for $437,000,000. That's a small amount for what is needed to fix damages from past rain storms. And wildfires are coming this summer. More millions of dollars to fight them too.

Two weeks since they found it and they already know how much to fix it?? That tells me they knew about it, estimated it and ignored it. When it fails we'll ask the other 49 states to fix it for us. NOT.. What I saw when I looked it up was California State Highway 1. I may be wrong.

They should have Hollywood fix it for them. They build things fast. And they support illegal immigration.. Have them build it fast for their own state.

Too bad about this. I traveled Hwy 1 numerous times. Once by motorcycle even.

Those of us in Californistan who have been so liberally served by our progressive democrat representatives in Sacramento sincerely wish to thank all of our nation's taxpayers for their generosity. Many more federal dollars as well as local taxes will be needed to restore the crumbling infrastructure of this socialist utopia. Fortunately there are the elite classes in Silicon Valley and Hollywood who will contribute their fair share as the middle classes have mostly fled. But this state, with the sixth largest economy in the world, deserves to prosper and it cannot be allowed to fail. If the federal government can rescue General Motors then it should be able to rescue California - doncha think?

Perhaps it's a good thing. Besides, did you see how green the hills are in the background of the photo of the bridge?

Use some of that money earmarked for the hi-speed rail between LA and San Fran.
Priorities.....
