This is very sad. Access to one of the worlds most beautiful coastlines may be limited for up to a year.

Governor Brown has already put in a request to the FEDS for $437,000,000. That's a small amount for what is needed to fix damages from past rain storms. And wildfires are coming this summer. More millions of dollars to fight them too.

Tell brown to take a flying leap, its not a federal problem.
Use your illegals to do the job and the taxes on their labor to pay for it.

A sadness for those that haven't seen it. One of the most beautiful places in the US in my opinion. Lunch at Nepenthe outside looking out over Point Sur is memorable. My wife, who went to school in Monterey, took my youngest son on a trip there a couple of years ago. I'm so glad he got a chance to see this lovely place while it was easily accessible.

I couldn't tell from the article whether this bridge was actually on Hwy 1 or not.

Hell, Brown's lunch would cost that much - might pay for the separation; cheaper than a "divorce!"

Yes, the bridge is on Highway 1 just south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and north of Big Sur Station. Nepenthe, Esalen, Ventana and Post Ranch are only accessible by helicopter or an 11 foot wide dirt road near Paul's Slide from the south. Perhaps Governor Moonbeam should use some of the $68 Billion he plans on spending on the bullet train to nowhere to fix this!

It really is sad as it is an amazingly beautiful part of the country. However, the dance between outspoken Gov. Brown who needs a lot of money and President Trump will make for interesting TV.

The reason I asked is because it talked about residents being cut off, but it would also cut off all traffic going north and south. Big inconvenience. I traveled that route from L.A. to San Francisco. So what will people do for the next year? It wasn't mentioned, which is why I asked. The Pacific Coast Hwy is one of the greatest drives....perhaps THE greatest drive in the U.S.

Better to spend the money for Donald's wall on our crumbling infrastructure instead. We can hire illegals to do the work cheap too ;)

Certainly better to spend taxpayers money on infrastructure than many of Moon Beam's, Save the Planet projects.

Highway 1 is a State Highway. There will be enough Federal Highway repairs necessary. Let the Left Coasters pay for their own state highway repairs. I wonder how deep the footings of the piers were placed or if they were anchored into rock.

In my humble opinion stop giving money to other countries (they don't like us anyway) and use the money to fix up our crumbling infrastructure like this. Couldn't the Army Corp of Engineers build some temporary bypass for the people who are stranded till the original problem is fixed?
