A question about trading in a camera.

Good morning everyone.
I bought a Canon 70D about a year and half ago and realized how much I love bird and wildlife photography.
I want to upgrade to the 7D Markii and was wondering if there is anywhere that takes cameras in on trade? If not, what would a fair price be for the used 70D? Not sure of the shutter count, probably about 5000ish, great camera, I just want to upgrade.
Thank you
Bob
Good advice here.
I hate to haggle and like to keep things in some aspects of my life simple.
I usually sell to KEH then buy from B&H or Adorama.
I feel like I get a good wholesale sale price and am willing to take the bit less just for simplicity. I feel I have been treated fairly by KEH on selling.
You have been already advised of those dealers that will accept your camera in trade but if you want to get some extra money from selling your camera I would advertise it here in the b&s forum. Camera dealers are there to make a profit so do not expect good money for your old camera.

The crooks are ever present and there are many ways to cheat and steal your equipment. I traded in a 5D III recently through B & H and while there offer was a bit low, it was safe! I could have gotten a hundred more but having been burned once, it was enough for me.
I have found that KEH gives the best deal's.

I have traded to B&H, Adorama and KEH, all with good results. You will get more if you do it yourself but you will have the hassles and the selling costs. I prefer to buy my big stuff locally, so what I usually do is offer it here first. If that works out great, if not I trade it into the dealer I buy my big stuff from at a lower, but still very fair, price. Today's camera bodies depreciate quickly and the warrantee is usually not transferrable. For pricing, I pick somewhere between what KEH would pay me for it and what they would sell it for, so everyone is happy. As anyone who has bought anything from me on here would tell you, my gear is in good shape, and that's been my experience for what I've bought here as well. Best of luck.
If you can keep it for a back-up camera. Carry it with w wide lens for other shots when out.

Dodd Camera has more local stores in Ohio than B&H. Some pawn shops will buy used photo gear. Remember that either of these or any other store will not pay as much as selling it outright to someone through a news add or craigs list. They need to make their money on it. You could do like most of us do and use it as a back up or give it to you wife or your child who likes photography.

Most dealers who have used equipment departments will consider trade-ins.
You will get between 50% and 66%.... maybe 75% at best of the used market value of your camera, on the trade-in. Or, another way of looking at it, you would get between 33% and 100% more money for your camera if you sold it outright, instead of trading it in. But, of course, selling it yourself is a lot more work than a simple trade-in.

Go to eBay and see what they sell for there. Look at the complete listings. This will tell you what they actually sold for. Also, you can go to Craigslist and see what they are selling for. The best and most profitable way to see your stuff is on Craigslist. If you trade or sell to a camera store, they will give you peanuts for it.
Do you need to sell it to finance the new one? If not, given the kind of price you are likely to get, you might want to keep it as a backup camera or one that you could keep a shorter lens on than the birding/wildlife lens on the new camera.

B&H takes trades as do others. They appear to pay 70% of the average retail price of a particular brand. You can price your camera on e-bay or other sites, and then take 70% of the average price and that will approximate what you will get. Off brands or unpopular models may be another issue. Hope this helps.
