A question about trading in a camera.
Good morning everyone.
I bought a Canon 70D about a year and half ago and realized how much I love bird and wildlife photography.
I want to upgrade to the 7D Markii and was wondering if there is anywhere that takes cameras in on trade? If not, what would a fair price be for the used 70D? Not sure of the shutter count, probably about 5000ish, great camera, I just want to upgrade.
Thank you
Bob
Adorama and B&H both take in trade-ins. Check them out.

Stores such as B&H, Adorama, and KEH all take cameras on trade or as outright purchases for their used sales stock. If you go to the B&H site and click on the Used tab near the top of the page you will find info on selling to them. It will give you an instant quote after you put in some basic info about the item. If you sell to them they will send you a check or give you a store credit that you can use for other purchases. You will almost certainly make more money selling privately to an individual but selling to a big retailer is quick, easy, and your money is guaranteed. If you don't want the hassle of selling privately, it's your best choice, IMO. If you want the best price for your item, sell privately. If you do decide to sell privately, get a quote from the big guys, then check to see what they are selling the same thing for used, and set your price somewhere in between.

Watch the "sold" prices on E Bay for the same camera for value. Expect about 35% less from a dealer on trade. You are always better off selling it yourself rather than trading.

I sold my sony a6000 to Cameta Camera and purchased a refurbished Nikon D5500 from them. They gave me a fair price and the transaction was very quick. They also add a year warranty to the Nikon 90 day warranty on their refurbished cameras.
They were great to work with.
From experience I will say B&H will give you a fair price. Keep in mind that digital cameras are computers. Like computers they depreciate pretty quickly, much more quicly than film cameras did in their day.

If you want the most for your camera, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, trade in. Sell it your self on Ebay. You will get 50-90% more for it. If you don't want the work, by all mean trade it in and help others make a profit on your hard earned money.

I have found over the years that I get my best price using Craigs List. Its better if you live near a big city, I am near DC, so I am fortunate. I would also recommend that you get software for the 70D shutter count. Everyone wants to know what it is. I use EOS Shutter Count. Google it and you should find a download. Good luck. I guess Ebay could be an option, but they get 10% (I think) and you should have Pay Pal. As far as the 7D Mark III, I would check the Canon Refurbished Site, you will save a couple of hundred dollars and still get a one year warranty. The site for the shutter count is: eoscount.com

They do. Be prepared for how little your camera will be worth.

This is what they have sold for recently on ebay. If you trade it in, the dealer will have to allow room for his profit, but it's a much simpler way to get money for your camera.
