Perhaps an SX60? Nice zoom range (21-1365mm), 16MP, shoots raw as well as JPEG, built-in IS and wifi for easy transmission of photos to phone, laptop or PC. Canon has the refurb for $379 as of last night. I've been thinking of one for my wife.
I'm leaning a lot toward that. Although, it doesn't shoot very well in low light. Again, I may be looking for that perfect camera and shouldn't be. People and nature are my specialties. Thanks for encouragement.

Sorry for your loss. I had an A570 while back. I liked the camera, but for some reason, it just quit working, so I moved on. If you don't have a problem with switching brands, you might consider the Panasonic Lumix ZS100. Not exactly middle of the road at just under $700.00 a copy, but a very nice camera with a 1" sensor and a 250mm (35mm equivalent) zoom and an electronic view finder as well as the rear LCD panel. Base on what I've read, it performs well in lower light situations, too. It's actually a bit more compact than the A570, and a lot more compact than any of the bridge cameras like the SX60, for instance. You can easily slip it into a jacket pocket or even a roomy pants pocket. For about half that price, you can pick up the Panasonic Lumix ZS60 which has a smaller sensor, but a longer--720mm, 35mm eq.) zoom, and performs about the same. I believe you can pick this one up for around $397.00 from B&H.

I haven't heard of the Canon A570 IS for a long time, and I had to look it up on Ebay to just get what you're talking about. You could replace your A570 IS off ebay for less than $50.00. Since you say you would like to replace it with something "comparable" or "better" leaves a really open field. You'll have to be a bit more specific, every camera is "better" considering the age and type of camera you lost. To find your camera match up, how deep do you want to get into photography? Maybe your cell phone camera will do, you can even get interchangeable lenses for a cell phone camera. Possibly a Canon SX 60. If you really want to dive deeper, look a Canon EOS Rebel line with all the interchangeable lenses. "Or Better" leaves a lot on the table.

While the SX60 HS is a nice "bridge" camera, it is larger than a "pocket" one, but smaller than a DSLR. If that isn't a problem for you, it is a "mega-zoom" meaning it has a built in LENS that goes from wide angle to strong telephoto. No switching lenses. The lesser SX50 HS was replaced by the SX60 HS but is available refurbished at a lower price.

The Powershot A570 IS is more of a pocket type or Point & Shoot.

The Rebel line is an entry line of DSLRs which does have interchangeable lenses which you indicated you didn't want.

Couldn't agree more! I have a 7DII and a 5III with the usual 70-200 2.8 and 2X extender, and 25-85. BUT!!! Getting older and the pack seems to be getting heavier. A couple years ago I bought SX50HS. It's great! Since then bought a refurb for my wife. The quality is great, and the size means it's always there and handy. Friend has Nikon 900. We both prefer the Canon.

Thanks everyone. Actually, I went dumpster diving for it during a blizzard. The theif took it our of my car along with a knapsack. I found the knapsack as I climbed into the dumpster, but of course no camera. :( I was a little on the angry side for not locking my car and toward the thief. If he wanted it so bad, I would have given it to it. grrrrrr

I have a Canon SX50, which I bought after getting my Mom and my in-laws one for Christmas several years ago. My SX50 is invaluable as I took it to Disney World last November (I decided I didn't want to carry my Canon 6D all over the place). I got really great photos and I was really pleased with it , not to mention the ease walking around. Hopefully you'll find something comparable to what you had and good luck.
