Soli...
did the 3 "bad" cards ever work in the D800?
What is the new card which does work?
Did you up grade the software in your camera?
Did you perform a camera reset?

Instead of SanDisk SDCFX3-004G 4GB Extreme III 20mbs, you might want to
use SDHC or SDXC cards and up your read/write speed to 80mbs

I also hope the reset will fix it. I myself have some problems with the Nikon D800 as well: the AF mode button broke, it won't stay at any mode, so I don't know which mode I'm in, and I can't remove the SD card, it totally jammed in the slot. Anyone has ideas how to fix these things, or experienced how much does it cost when send to Nikon, please advice. Also, how bad is it if I just keep using the camera with these issues ? Thanks.

...dude, you need to get that machine into the shop! So much breakage sounds bad (I've had mine since they came out and never have had a problem...least of all something mechanical)...betcha ya got that SD card in backwards. Dunno where Nikon has a repair facility up your way, prolly in SF, but were I you, I'd drive it in and look like a whupped dog when I give it to them...hehe...

...I'm also the type of guy to take some needle-nose pliers and really give that card a tug, prolly can't ruin it any more than it is!

Go to nikon site and follow links. They have step by step instructions how to check if you need an update, and how to do it.

In short you download to the computer and transfer to camera with a card.

Good luck with everything.

My prayers are with you. Just a suggestion, make sure your firmware is the most current.

I don't think the SD card was backward: it still records and downloads data ok, you can't push the SD card in backward anyway, camera has a mechanic to prevent this. My D800 is more expensive than the card, so I rather bring it in a Nikon shop, there is one in Sacramento. Thanks for your response, I'll take it in sometime.

My Nikon D800 is fairly new, with less than 500 clicks. Now I find that the message FULL comes into the control panel when I put in a CF or SD card. I have tried several cards with the same response. Unfortunately it is out of warranty as I have cancer and have been out of action for over a year. Nikon's response was to send it for repairs. Has anyone of you come across this problem ?

I know that you have solved your problem, but let me ask....where did you buy your camera? Is there a professional photo shop near you where you could have purchased it? I purchase all of my equipment from a professional photo store about 20 miles from here, despite having to pay state tax. However, should I ever have a problem they are knowledgeable and helpful. I ran into a problem once in which I was getting varying results in my photos and could not figure out what was going on. I was shooting in aperture priority. It turns out that I had not reset my ev adjustment from the prior photo shoot and the pro caught it right away. It helps to have that local connection if it is available.

I almost always shoot full manual, setting up for each shot but when i first got my 810
i set up bracketing so i would at least know how if i ever chose to do it.
Needless to say i forgot and the next time i went shooting
it took me a half hour to figure out what was going on.

I had said this a while back on these forums. I bought the D800 (2 of them) a few years back.
They had a card problem which I read about online. I bought all kinds of cards recommended and not and
the problems persisted only on one of the bodies. The only camera i have sent back in years for repair.
Came back promptly and the cards were fine in the one D800.
What bothers me is when their is a persistent problem Nikon doesn't issue a new firmware or
at least admit to the problem. I spent a couple of hundred dollars in cards playing the we recommend
jus these cards and that card. Their were things I loved about the D800 and things I was not happy about.
Had Nikons for years and was spoiled that I never had any problems. My fault for wanting to use the Nikon
for a lot more video and it was cumbersome. Other issues they had with D800 they muddled around with
without saying heres how we are going to fix it. I was told that Canon is far better is this regard.
I now have a lot of Sony cameras and video camcorders. All fine accept my older NEX-7 I want to give
to my grandaughter. It says the lens is mounted and I can use. Went online and it is a big problem for
others to. The camera has had light use and I wonder what Sony will charge to fix a pervasive problem.
Good luck.
