Why they go to my web site is the www.

I'm looking for a personal web site where I can post images and let family and friends see them.
I did a search on UHH and Google but most suggestions are for business, an overkill for what I need.
I travel a few times a year, shoot a lot, then cull and put online on Picassa. People have not always
been able to access the albums (they are now on Google +). So I want a simple, plain site, not
too expensive, one that I can control who can get there.
Do I need a domain name (Godaddy)? Some suggestions in previous topics were Zenfolio and Smugmug.
Are these still relevant?
Thanks

I've been using Smugmug. They have done a good job for me, but there are other good ones. Many use Zenfolio.
If you are looking for a domain name and might be interested in a website, I have been using IXwebhosting.com for more than 12 years. Great tech support. Price is right. You will get webhosting for 1-many websites, including free domain registration (Depending on which plan). They have an app to help you design and build it. I have ten domains hosted with them and seven websites (My daughter has one more website with them.) I just screwed up and lost part of one of my sites. A quick chat with a tech and he had it running again within ten minutes.

I have a web page made on WIX.com but for family and friends I use Facebook. its too easy and everybody is on it.... you can set the privacy on FB so just your friends can see the pix, or of course everyone.
With smugmug you can display you work and sell it to if you like. I'm number 2 and 4 or 5 on google. You want to be on page 1 or 2 or for get it. It took me 3 years to do it. Put your domain name on ever free search you can find. all ways put
www.yourdomain and .com that will help big time. All ways use key words when you post you business.
www.BillyBobsNoveltyPHOTObooth.com a to long domain is I went with
www.bbnpb.com EZer for people to use. its time for you to get with it.

Check out 500px.com. Free for basic use. Excellent.
Shutterfly is free and very flexible. If you only want to share photos with family, friends, you probably do not need a website. Any of the free sharing sites, Shutterfly, Smugmug, Flickr, ... will do just fine. You can configure your galleries/albums, via privacy settings, for visitors to download and or order prints. I have mine set to no copy, no download, no order prints. I have these sites for almost 10 years. Easy to set up, free, easy to upload images, ... Very responsive, excellent tech support too. Create a site (easy), upload a few images and send a link to friends, relatives, .. and see how it works.

Another forum member recomended weebly to me. It was a bit tricky to set up my site, and that other member helped me through it. However, it is free, and the final product does what I wanted it to do. Good luck.
Weebly: drag and drop website designer (and first site is free)
Google Photos: leverage albums for events and family and themes (you'll always have originals on computer)
Flickr: 1 Tb free
Zenfolio by far, You can upload your images at a high enough resolution so they might be viewed as an example of what nearer the printed version.
Facebook is not a long term solution. Facebook fold, spindles and reduces the size of uploaded images. Facebook is in some cases a quick method sharing photos of interest to your friends, and others.
You have the option to a blog,
You can share a link to specific set of photos that they may appear in or have an interest in.
Zenfolio provides you with off site storage for your edited work.

Wix and GoDaddy also provide a simple Web site builder application.
If anyone has ever attempted to set up their own website easily on Go Daddy, they will find that what Danica Patrick implies, that it is not easily done, or as easily done as via Zenfilio. Zenfolio is a website provider, you can upload and sell your work, they collect the payments, then forward the proceeds to you. Zenfolio provide you step by step instructions on how to customize a website with your name, or your companies name easily, you don't have to know any code. It is a one stop solution to upload your images, preview, price and sell your images, contact your clients, user of customers. I know too many instances where sites set up on some providers do not offer the ability to grow the site as the need arises for growth.
Prior to using Zenfolio, I was using a low priced web host, $9.95. Many times I found the website was not working on weekends. If I needed to talk to a tech support person there was no way to get a solution. No frustration over waiting, until someone decided to answer an e-mail. Was wasted. The quicker I can edit and upload my work is a necessity, so access daily and weekend access is totally necessary.
Who you decide to use, will depend on your needs, the ability to grow with your needs. If a bare bones website will work for you so be it.
Don't discount Weebly 'easy peasy' (drag and drop) - first website is free
