I'm looking for a personal web site where I can post images and let family and friends see them.
I did a search on UHH and Google but most suggestions are for business, an overkill for what I need.
I travel a few times a year, shoot a lot, then cull and put online on Picassa. People have not always
been able to access the albums (they are now on Google +). So I want a simple, plain site, not
too expensive, one that I can control who can get there.
Do I need a domain name (Godaddy)? Some suggestions in previous topics were Zenfolio and Smugmug.
Are these still relevant?

Thanks

Look into Pogoplug for one. They seem pretty good. I used to use them around 10 years back and just stopped for some reason. About having only your select people look at it, I don't really know. You'll have to contact them since they just late last fall changed a few things around and changed the price to $4.95 a month for unlimited storage or $49 a year. (USD)

Also look into Shootproof. They're a bit more expensive, depending on the overall size you want, but allow you to do many other things including personalizing "whatever" you have for whoever you want and making all kinds of custom pricing sheets. They are more into the business line of photography. A small part of what you plan to do can be done through them also.

Family friends? Use FB and set the privacy like Fort Knox.

Smugmug user since 2007. Fairly easy to setup with great online support. My personal site can be found by clicking on my user name. I believe they still do a 14 day free trial. If you end up liking it, use my address or I can send you a coupon code for 20% off your first year. I then end up with the same discount...so it's like you're helping both of out out.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely use your suggestion if I end up using them. It's a win-win for both of us.

If you just want to share photos, Google drive is easy and free (and larger than Dropbox for zero $). If you want an easy-to-create personal website, then Weebly is free. Another alternative is Wix, which is either free or has a cost depending on the options you choose. Alternately if you subscribe to Adobe cc, then there's a free website available, but I haven't tried it.

Look into Wordpress. It's a free blog and is used by many photographers.

Fine Art America has a free level of membership, at least they did when I joined, limited number of hotos but you could set galleries and password them, at $30.00 a year for a membership,I think, it's probably cheaper than doing all the work to set up your own site and you get a site out of the membership, I'll post my address below, Bob.

I use Shutterfly. I have 5 sites and they are used for sharing images with friends, family, ...You do not need to create a website. Smugmug, Flickr, are also viable sites. Here's a link to one of my Shutterfly sites. See if this addresses your needs.
