I should not poke fun at the guy in #2 as I have done the same thing many times when not wanting to hit the quick release for one or two shots.

The fellow in #2 redefines the term handheld. These are sort of all about people placement. I liked the guy leaning in on the left edge of #1. I appreciate your comments Linda.
These just floated to the surface of the swamp that I call my filing system. They are from an event I attended a couple of years ago. Trains and Tripods was held at the California State Railroad Museum and came to my attention through a fellow UHH member, thanks Mogul. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-197153-1.html It was a wonderful opportunity to roam freely prior to public admission with special access to many of the exhibits. This is an excellent museum and I had a fine morning. I took a lot of nerdy close-ups of heavy iron which no one will ever see. It was a group that generally respected each other's shooting space and contained some serious collective train knowledge. These are on the lighter side and may be of more general interest.

As some one who grew up watching these massive cab forward engines cug up over Donner Summit as well as riding the Shasta Daylight from Sac to Portland in '50 it is a real thrill to get up close and personal with them.
