These just floated to the surface of the swamp that I call my filing system. They are from an event I attended a couple of years ago. Trains and Tripods was held at the California State Railroad Museum and came to my attention through a fellow UHH member, thanks Mogul. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-197153-1.html It was a wonderful opportunity to roam freely prior to public admission with special access to many of the exhibits. This is an excellent museum and I had a fine morning. I took a lot of nerdy close-ups of heavy iron which no one will ever see. It was a group that generally respected each other'™s shooting space and contained some serious collective train knowledge. These are on the lighter side and may be of more general interest.

Neat-o! #2 is fun for the position of the photographer's tripod #1 is an awesome look at the form of that engine (and the photographer adds interest). Check out sharpshooter's share thread in main forum - of when/if to include people in photos. A couple of these would be great for discussion there!

I too thank Mogul for his knowledge and help regarding the rail musium - I have enjoyed a couple rewarding days with my camera there - I do hope to get down there on a tripod shoot and try that technique in photo #2.

That engine is "So" Big that it is a real challenge to photo - I just can't get it all in on photo - maybe next time.

That looks like a fun day with many photographers on hand for the event. Great story and shots!

I caught the fire truck "running" outside during the Anniversary Days quite lucky to catch it.

The fellow in #2 redefines the term handheld. These are sort of all about people placement. I liked the guy leaning in on the left edge of #1. I appreciate your comments Linda.

It is awesome! I remember them rumbling through the center of the N Sacramento valley town of my childhood. We would also see the Shasta Daylight (#2) come speeding through. Thanks for the visit. I think I fixed the URL.

Thanks Bill, it was a relatively small group and not the problem these shots might suggest.
