I don't know if this counts, but I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-1000 which takes good pictures through a Leica lens that covers 24-400mm. It has a large 1" sensor. It only costs $698 at B&H. It is very light weight and does a good job.

The lumix is one i was interested in also,

Just went on ebay there is one on auction now. Comment was made that the lenses on this cam go off track with slightest bump. ????

if you get a camera in this price range you will be getting a very small sensor and consequently a lower quality image. Bridge cameras however are a lot of fun to use with the zoom ranges available. As long as you will be satisfied with the images you get. Lenses in that price range usually don't control purple fringing well and have fairly poor sharpness towards the corners. There are some very good websites that evaluate and test cameras. In case you don't know about them, and there are too many to mention, here are a few that I have found especially helpful when trying to decide on which camera to buy. steves digicams, imaging resource and dpreview

In short, it's got functionality like a DSLR but no interchangeable lens, kind of like a mirrorless you can't change lenses on.

I have the SX60HS, great zoom range. I've seen them used on eBay for $300.

Thank you for explaining that.

What does the 60 not have that you like about the 50? (Starting to get used to this format)

Never owned the sx 60 sandysan, but several hoggers and review sites commented it wasn't as good as the sx50.

Welcome. I have two bridge cameras. A Canon SX60 and a Sony RX100(1). The Sony, even version 1 – they are up to 5, is an excellent camera that you can buy for about $450. A version 5 will run near to a $1000. Have fun!

Hi. I'm sandy and have always loved photography. I have an old canon power shot which has served me somewhat well over the past 8 years. And now I have an Apple mini Ipad which has a better camera. I have been searching through U-tube and other online sites for a camera where I can have more control. I am saving up right now and hope to be able to get a $300-$400 camera. So far I have my eye on the Fufi S9900W and the Sony 550, mainly because they are great in low light. There was a Canon bridge cam I am thinking about also.

I am looking at bridge cams that have wifi, good in low light. I would like to hear about likes and dislikes you have regarding your experiences with a bridge cam.

Did you mean LX-7?

It's an oldie, but goodie. I use one still at work when I don't want to bring my own gear.

Why a "Bridge Camera" rather than a 24/7 SuperZoom. Images are not scheduled in nature and the 24/7 is always there. Tho, I admit my Canon SX50 is well loved and if going on a "shoot" then it is my preference. I am to ol' and wise or lazy to carry my Sony DSLR + Addon lenses and flash and tripod and and and.. Yikes 40# and "da birt dun flu da coop"

I use my FZ1000 for travel. It gives me all the range I would need (25-400mm) at as fast as f/2.5-4.0. Pretty compact and light. Excellent images. It's not my Nikon D500, but it's a lot lighter and I don't have to drag the heavy lenses when traveling. Big plus for sure.
