Hi. I'm sandy and have always loved photography. I have an old canon power shot which has served me somewhat well over the past 8 years. And now I have an Apple mini Ipad which has a better camera. I have been searching through U-tube and other online sites for a camera where I can have more control. I am saving up right now and hope to be able to get a $300-$400 camera. So far I have my eye on the Fufi S9900W and the Sony 550, mainly because they are great in low light. There was a Canon bridge cam I am thinking about also.
I am looking at bridge cams that have wifi, good in low light. I would like to hear about likes and dislikes you have regarding your experiences with a bridge cam.
I don't know if this counts, but I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-1000 which takes good pictures through a Leica lens that covers 24-400mm. It has a large 1" sensor. It only costs $698 at B&H. It is very light weight and does a good job.

Yes, just about all bridge cameras have tiny sensors, but Panasonic and sony have bucked the trend with a couple of models with a 1" (dslr) standard sensor. As rmm said, the dmc-fz-1000 has excellent reviews. The Canon sx 50 was the favoured bridge camera of a lot of the Hoggers (including me) but Canon stopped making it in favour of the sx 60.
I like my Panasonic Lumix FZ70, my Canon SX60, and my Nikon P900. While none are well known for low light prowess, I have been, generally, more than pleased with what I get in low light with each of them. If you are going to stick with the two you have investigated, and it will be your only camera, used for all situations, I would think the 5500 with the longer telephoto reach would fit your varied needs best.
Can someone tell me exactly what is a Bridge camera???

In short, it's got functionality like a DSLR but no interchangeable lens, kind of like a mirrorless you can't change lenses on.
I have the SX60HS, great zoom range. I've seen them used on eBay for $300.
I forgot, Welcome to the forum Sandy.
Thank you all for your replies. I didnt expect such fast feedback. You're great.
For now I'm going to see what i can do with the Ipad. I saw some pics in Flickr taken by an Ipad and was surprised. It matters more the eye of the beholder than the tools, but good tools help.
A bridge cam, I understand, is like a point and shoot but with advantages of a more expensive camera.
The Lumix was another I had an interest in, mainly for the Leica lens.

What does the 60 not have that you liked about the 50?

What does the 60 not have that you like about the 50? (Starting to get used to this format)
