My choices were a)18-200 Nikon VRII. b)35mm f1.8 Nikon c)8mm Rokinon fisheye d) 150-400mm Nikon.

The 18-140 would have been okay. I thought the 18-300mm was too heavy and made too many compromises at the long end.

I would have liked to have had a macro like the 105mm but I never dropped the coins in the machine.

Good choices would be the 18-140mm, 55-300mm, 70-300mm. The FX 28-300mm is also good for the D7100. Good luck.

If you have the Nikon 28-85mm lens that went with the N2020 you can use that as well. I have the N2020 with the 28-85mm lens and it works with my D7200, seems a bit heavier than my 18-140mm lens, but it does work! Good Luck!

I have that camera and the only DX lens I own is the 18-300 which is a good all around lens, IMHO.

I used the wrong quote reply first, oops! But, I also have a N2020 and the Nikon 28-85 lens that came with it and that lens works fine with my D7200, a bit heavier, it seems, than my Nikon 18-140mm but works and has the macro setting on it! Good Luck!

It all depends on what type of photography you want to do. I bought the 35mm f/1.8 when I bought my d7100, as it is as close to a 50 mm for a FF camera. I then got the 18-55 VRii as a walk around lens. Last year I bought the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8. Next on my list is the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8. The one I would do without is the 18-55, but it was really cheap so I don't consider it a waste of money at all.

If you aren't sure about the lenses, I found that renting lenses was an inexpensive, wonderful way to try them out. I've used lensrental.com, borrowlenses.com, and a locally owned camera store for renting. I bought the Tokina after renting it several times, and decided on the 70-200 as a lens I definitely want. I decided against buying the Sigma 150-600 Sport after renting it, simply because it was too big and heavy so I would probably not use it much. I will rent it for the few times I will want to lug it around.

I have a few lens but the one that stays on my D7100 90% of the time is the 18-200mm Nikor. I love this lens.

I would consider the Nikon 18-200 II a must lens. Very sharp, very light. My second would be the Nikon 10-24 mm lens. With these two you would have a great combo. I would also get a Nikon SB-800, a old but very reliable flash, mint off ebay for any of these three, I would also go MINT in the box if you can.

I agree with a couple of the guys that the 35 1.8 is an excellent choice. It's an awesome lens and cheap. I use Canon now but I still have my D7100 and the 35mm prime and it's one of the best lenses I've ever had. Shoots great indoors in low light. Of course, we sat that about primes but they're not all wonderful in low light. Can't miss with this lens.
