Backup storage for overseas trip.

Planning a trip to Kenya later this year, will not be carrying laptop. Looking for ideas for backing up cards or downloading cards. Will be there 2-3 weeks. Doug

Considering this, however large cards become expensive. Storage units I have found are also very expensive, cards may likely be best. Thanks, Doug

The problem with SD cards is not knowing 'just how many' images you have on them before you change them.
The good point of SD cards is that 'if you have one per day' chances are you will not run out of space plus you will know when you took your photos. (easier than checking exif data)
Being small they weigh little and security won't bother questioning you as to 'What it is'.

When I travel, I bring a small Acer netbook with 350MB drive. I also bring a small external hard drive. WD now makes a wireless hard drive, so you don't need the computer.

Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Take a laptop, process your photos every night and that job will be done when you come home. Take a laptop!!!

Agreed! I take a MS Surface pro 3. Light and easy to take with you. I do belt and braces and take an external HDD too. Served me well on a three and a half week trip to Namibia in 2016. I will do the same for Botswana/Zimbabwe this year.

Having traveled most of the US for 3 weeks each summer, the first year I toted a small laptop and downloaded each day's shooting but I also changed the cards out each day. The second and subsequent years I just took extra cards. Sure they cost money, but prices on SD cards have come down AND I saved aggravation of having to boot up the PC, download the files and such. After spending 10 to 12 hours touring the sites and driving it was a welcome relief.

Just don't take it to China or Russia where I guarantee you will bring home viruses and/or trojans if you are lucky

Seagate introduced a new ext. hard drive this year, it is just the perfect solution for this. It is very small (about the size of a pack of cigarettes), but with a capacity of 5TB!! It sports USB 3 connectivity.
