Seagate introduced a new ext. hard drive this year, it is just the perfect solution for this. It is very small (about the size of a pack of cigarettes), but with a capacity of 5TB!! It sports USB 3 connectivity.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find it on Seagate.

2nd vote for the Ravpower option. Works well with SD to portable hard drive. On board battery, recharged with cell phone plug. You would need a tablet to do the file transfer.

That's just a file hub, a way to transfer files, not a storage device itself.

Those look good but you still need a computer. The WD wifi portable has an SD card slot for automatic download and storage.

All you need is a tablet.

I'm sure you have a good reason for not carrying a laptop. However, you spent a lot of money to arrange this trip and the loss, damage or corruption of one or more of your cards could be a disaster (at least it would be for me). If I'm going to spend upwards of $1000 a day for a photo trip I want to be sure that I'll have the pictures when I get home. I carry a 12" MacBook (2 pounds), two 500GB hard drives for duplicate backup of raw files (1 pound) and the WD wireless hard drive for direct download and storage of complete SD cards. The macbook has 500GB hard drive and I store the jpegs most likely to be used in the short term. I like to have the macbook to review my pictures and to compare notes with other photographers on the trip. It also facilitates sending pictures back to the family in Canada. I usually set up the download of the raw files to the two 500GB hard drives to happen while I'm having supper. The download to the WD wireless can happen while I'm asleep.

If it is just a backup you want (with the intent of keeping the cards until returning home and uploading from them) then I'd suggest an iPad. It is small, has plenty of memory, and you can use it to keep up with your emails while you are away. Good luck with your decision.

Not a storage device.

Does you camera have dual SD lots? If so, you can write every photo to each card for an instant backup. If you only have one slot, follow the recommendations of the other posters.
