Unless I'm traveling, I shoot with my DSLRs. I bring a compact with me on trips, depending on the trip. I prefer the big cameras. They're real "chick magnets."

If that's true, I'm going to hang two of them around my neck and one at my hip.

Nothing is as good, versatile and useful as an interchangeable lens camera. I'd have the bigger the stuff than 35mm but my budget has never allowed it. When I was younger I had a 6 X 6 yashica and an RB 67 but not able to in digital. i will someday. maybe have to turn over all my 35mm gear to my son and be forced to settle for less because of weight, but I'm not there yet and won't until I am forced to do so. And from what I have heard from many who have gone to mirrorless and smaller formats; they are not happy.

I would say there are a lot more who are happy who went mirrorless.

You might check out the "new" mirror-less cameras. I think Sony originated the first to become popular, but other makes now offer such.

I think your love for life, tempered by external feelings, (health for one) will help you make that decision. At 82 I'd like to acquire a 150-600mm lens for some birding/wildlife shooting, but I don't think I will. I bought a surf fishing rig instead. Go figure. djt

Im 86 and have that 159-600mm lens. It is one heavy beast. I keep it mounted on my tripod. I can count on one hand the times Ive used it.

I'd say it's time to sell it.

Why? I don't need the money. And I throw it in the back seat of my car when I go on a drive. If I don't take it with me is the tme I could use it.

There may be. I don't own one myself; I have a good camera and plenty of glass for it. I am only commenting on what I read here on the forum.

Me too - I have seen a few saying they went back to their previous dslrs gear, but mostly I see satisfied users who are very happy by the switch. In fact the photo forums that deal with mirrorless gear gaining new members at a high rate.

But neither example will put $$$ in your or my pocket, so who really cares right?

Precisely. Those that are happy with them seems for the most part is because they needed lighter gear because of their health. So instead of hanging up the DSLR, they have moved to what they can physically handle. For them that is a win-win situation. They are happy with the mirrorless for that reason and so would I if I had to make the change; in fact I'd be happy as a lark because I can continue to shoot. Would be interesting to hear from these people if they would go back to their earlier gear if their physical condition allowed them to do so.

That would be an interesting topic - why don't you start one? Plenty of mirrorless users on these pages.

Good idea, glad I thought of it. LOL A standing thing between my son and I; the other one always takes credit for the one who has the idea.
