Fast lens vs long zoom. For me a fast lens will win every time.

Welcome to the Old Duffers club on UHH, Spirit. Just listen to your body. And if you are now asking, yes it is your body talking and is probably your time to make the change. I went to both the SX60 and the P900 for my outdoor shooting. Never looked back.

I have a Pentax Q-7 MILC as my secondary camera; unfortunately they may have discontinued the line, so I guess I shouldn't be recommending it.

With several lenses, I have a kit for it just like my K-30 kit, only smaller and lighter. It has a 1/1.7" sensor, so of course it struggles in dimly-lit conditions, but in good light it is just as good as my K-30; controls are virtually the same also. Two months ago when I rode a train to Calif so I could be my daughter's co-driver as she moved back to Indiana, that is the camera I took with me, {because I needed to minimize weight and volume} and I was totally satisfied with the job it did.

If I were physically unable to handle the K-30 any more, I would be more than happy to continue with the Q-7 or some comparable camera such as an MFT camera.

here are links to several threads of images I took with that camera

Hopefully, the point will come when you think for yourself.

When you start to lose interest and quit photographing because you don't want to carry what you have...

I bought Micro 4/3 gear so I could cut out 2/3 to 3/4 of the weight, and maintain most of the same capabilities as my previous gear. Love it. I actually cut out 7/8 of the weight, because now my still camera is my most excellent video camera.
