Yesterday afternoon we attended the 41st Madrigal Dinner provided at nearby St. Mary's College. Last year we had second row seats, so I made sure we reserved tickets earlier, partly because we could see better and partly because I didn't want to take pictures "around" those in the front row. We had a great time. I probably should have post something like this by Black Friday, because the Madrigal season is probably near its end, but I would encourage everyone to attend at least one of these {I've now attended at least one at three different institutions}.

The SMC variant has the dinner imbedded in a locally-written play; this year, the "fool" was rewarded with a willing bride

Magnificent photos and processing of a lovely event...thanks for sharing.
What a great series of pictures! I'd never heard of people performing like this before.

I do need to post a "reminder" about eleven months from now. Many colleges do this kind of thing - it gives good experience to instrumentalists, singers, and dancers ... and it raises money for the music school.

Our local high school has madrigal dinners. I never knew what they were like. Thanks for the pics.
Nice job. The lighting gave your pictures somewhat of an "old masters" quality appropriate to the music.
Lovely series of shots! Love the costumes and the lighting. Looks like great fun. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, two years ago, I used my old Canon Elph which automatically applied WB and didn't give me the option of saving CR2 {Canon's raw format}; in the middle of the dinner, my wife pointed out that the pictures were "wrong", that they didn't capture the lighting effects that the "set designers" had worked so hard to achieve as part of their effort to turn a student lounge into an olde dining hall. Shortly after that, I made my decision to buy a Pentax Q-7. which gave me the small size I needed, but also has a "candle light" WB setting, and allows me to save DNG {their raw format}. I don't think of those things until I encounter them, I guess.

My wife received advertising about this year's dinner Friday, and ordered tickets today, so this seemed like to good time to pop this back up to the front page to remind those of you who expressed interest in this sort of thing. This is probably a good time to contact the college near you to see if they have a Madrigal Dinner and when / how you can purchase tickets.
