I have shunned paper type labels for years because the heat of a PC can un-glue the things and ruin a drive!

Laser printing on laser printable disks is preferred, but both CD drives and software are "ify"....I neatly print the info on the disk in Sharpie and make a case sleeve for additional info.

I use Photodex Producer to present many of my photographs and make presentations for others. I have a Canon iP4940 printer and was wondering if any member could recommend suitable software for making labels to print on printable DVDs.

I've been collecting movies for years on DVD, both recorded directly from Starz and others. I label mine with the Memorex system that furnishes you with labels and a mounter. For me at least it works very well. To save ink I normally just put on the title, perhaps a bit of data about the movie, the stars and the year released. You can find the Memorex system at Staples. Good luck.

Pay attention to Dan's message!!!

All the paper type CD/DVD covers are not recommended by Ford, (somewhere in the owners manual), simple because the glue get hot and starts to un-attach. When a small portion starts to become unglued, it can totally messup the player in the car. I found out thi after screwing up my 6 cd player in my car. (Who reads the manual except to change the clock to and from standard time? LoL)

The best thing to do would be to visit get a printer with true printing on a CD/DVD. A bunch of Canon printers can do this, probably many others too. (On a Canon printer with that ability, look underneath one of the paper trays. That is where they likely store the CD/DVD print holder.)

When you go to a computer store, make sure you get the printable CD/DVD's. They are made by several mfg's.

Not sure if you mean labels or background...I don't make labels but print directly onto the CD...I use an Epson Printer and just pick a shot related to what's on the disc and use that as a background and then print the title over that...

This is exactly what I use as well. Great way to customize. It just takes a little bit of time for drying.

I have a different Canon printer, but it came with software to do that. It works well. I think it is called "My Image Garden" (which is a weird name).

Yes. There is also a simpler and older piece of software called CD-LabelPrint developed by Canon, available here: http://cd-labelprint.updatestar.com/en

I periodically create DVDs and CDs on a Pixma Pro 9000 mk II and still use the old software, but My Image Garden works also. For a while Canon did not support CD printing in the US while the same printers in other geographies did. I think a licensing issue, but a firmware upgrade to the European version, removing a small plastic cover, and a tray from ebay fixed that problem.

I concur with other people's comments about the paper stick on labels, they can be bad news, but printable discs work really well.

Good luck

Dan Mc is so right with his recommendations. I have used an Epson printer which was capable of printing directly on the cd or DVD, or alternatively I have used a sharpie and printed just the basic info. Paper labels ar a "no-no" since they often cause problems in your player.

The worst thing that you can do is put labels on any data disk.
There are printers that are designed to print on a disk.
Also there are manufacturers that make disks coated to be printed on.

Interesting. I've got movies I labeled many years ago and the labels are still in place. Perhaps in a hot car and I can understand that.

It's a known fact that if a label is even just slightly off center it will put a strain on a DVD or CD drive and shorten it's lifespan.
This is why there are printers for disks and printable disks to use in them.

They do seem to be OK in a home player, but in a vehicle I have experienced problems...,

Nothing that wrecked the player, but definitely the additional mass of the label had an effect when traveling fast with a vehicle with a hard sports suspension.

I definitely recommend using printable disc media and a printer that can accommodate such things.

I use a Canon Pixma MX922 printer to print directly on the dvd. The Canon support website (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/mx-series-inkjet/mx922?tab=drivers#Z7_MQH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25) has Easy-PhotoPrint EX which can be downloaded free of charge.

========================================================================

Sharpie now makes a pen that's made to write on a disk.
I have bought several of them and use them for back-ups.

I find I struggle just a bit to copy a photo onto a DVD with a Sharpie 😄😄

I was just pointing out that Sharpie makes a pen now that has an ink that won't damage a CD or DVD.
In the past Inks on the surface of a dish could eventually cause damage to the data.
I use the safe Sharpies to date my photo disk collection.
And also list filenames on them.
