This shot is one of my experiments with bracketing, so the file should be nice and data-rich. And I've seen a bright version and a dark version so I can tell you it could be taken either way. Edit it in whatever way you think suitable (link to DNG version below the jpg).

A lovely shot, here are a couple of ideas I had for it, although it is difficult to improve upon.

My rendition: Heavy tone mapping and a lot of dodge and burn.

Played with color tones, and did a little bit of touch up to the sides of the lighthouse. Added contrast and a Nik structure to the scene.

The foreground had a sharp focus and the DOF didn't carry well into the background so I Added a Gaussian Blur to the foreground weeds and grass and attempted to sharpen the background.

Interesting to see a lighter version, SHG. You're probably right about the DOF, but to be quite honest I haven't scrutinised it closely enough to notice. Normally I would have focused somewhere a bit beyond the foreground vegetation, but the ground falls away quickly beyond what you can see. With the foreground stuff being so close I knew it would be a stretch to get everything reasonably sharp and I knew if I focused on the lighthouse the foreground would be too soft. I could have gone a lot smaller than f/20 but my ISO was creeping up, plus the close vegetation was moving in the breeze so a slower shutter speed would have been tempting fate.

Interesting effect with the sky, RB. It looks decidedly pre-storm. You're not the first one to have a halo in and around the vegetation on the right. It must have been in the original somewhere.

Thanks for posting, Wayne. If only we had sunrises like that here . I'm guessing that as well as the above, you did some colour tweaking that you haven't mentioned
