When my PC wouldn't recognize my phone, I took the phone to the dealer and had them transfer the photos to a flash drive. Those young guys' fingers just fly over the phone screen and make it do whatever they want!
Right. When I had Verizon for my cell, I was always surprised at how competent the people in the store were at using any type of phone. No matter what the question or problem, customers got a fast and accurate response.
One way is to use DropBox as in this 2013 article:
http://www.marmalademoon.com/blog/how-to-automatically-backup-your-mobile-photos-with-dropbox (Google for other suggestions.)
And in the DropBox App you can, in the Files menu, click on the "Plus" icon in the lower right and click on "Take a Photo." (If you have more than one Camera App installed you must choose which camera to use.) This will save the image only to your Dropbox folder and NOT to your cell phone.
I have an iPhone, and I downloaded an app called photosync. It downloads all photos from my iPhone,iPad whenever I wish.

How do you get it straight to Lightroom? So glad to see this post as I have been trying to do this for days. Thanks I don't have the cloud LR.
I have a galaxy and I use an app called "photo transfer" also download it onto your PC. Works a treat, so easy. Hope this helps.

View the link: once the Collection is set up and you enable Lightroom Mobile sync ... it's 'magic'
just feel liker messing with yous today. I have a tracfone, so cheap I can't figure how to get the photo out of it. no big deal since I wouldn't insult a person, animal, or landscape with it. I carry a Nikon Coolpix in my pants pocket, no problem pulling the sd card out and plugging it into a reader.
I have an I phone and use an Transfer App to my PC via wifi.

I have a Galaxy7 edge... Here's how it's done on that..
connect your phone to your desktop.
Swipe down from the top of your phone, scroll down to where it says USB Charging "tap here for more options" and tap on that... it gives you options for photo or file transfer. Select Photo Transfer. Go to your PC and "Computer" (used to be My Computer) ( I have windows 7 might be different on yours) and find the drive that your phone is on. Click to open. It will show "Card" or "Phone". Select whichever your pics are on.
Then click DCIM>Camera and your pics should show up... Let me know if it works :)

I use to be able to do this with my Galaxy S5. Now I can't. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have a Blackberry Priv but because it is an Android v6.0.1 device, the procedure should be the same with your Galaxy phone.
Transfer files between your computer and device using a USB connection
1. Using a USB cable, connect your device to your computer.
2. On your device, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Connected in charging mode notification.
3. Tap File transfers or Photo transfer (PTP).
4. On your computer, if necessary, enter your device password. Your device and media card appear as drives on your computer.
5. Go to the files or folders that you want to copy.
6. Drag and drop the files or folders into the desired folders.
7. If necessary, before disconnecting your device, on your computer, right-click your device's drive. Click Eject.
Change how your device connects to your computer
Each time you connect your device to your computer, by default, your device connects in charging mode, and a notification appears in the notification tray that tells you which mode is in use. To change the connection mode, your device must be connected to your computer.
1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
2. Tap the USB connection notification.
3. Select an option.

I usually just email any pictures from my phone to myself. Pick them up on the laptop and move them to wherever I'm putting them.
That's what I do, I email them to myself.

Thanks, Ron. I had been doing this, but this morning when I tried to transfer some pictures I was not getting the USB connection notification. I had not tried to transfer pictures since the last Samsung system update, so I thought maybe something had changed. But, this evening I tried this and it worked perfectly. Go figure.
Since someone posted that android phones no longer have removable backs so I feel I need to correct that to tell you that many, unlike any iPhones, do still have have removable backs so that their batteries can be replaced and often the Sim and SD cards are located there as well. The most expensive models often do not have removable backs. As a side note, even more important is the option to add a Micro SD card so the 16 GB internal memory model can have a $10 32 GB or $20 64 GB SD card (if you know where to buy them) added to minimize cost while providing the same functionality as the much more expensive models. I just upgraded my 5 year old 4.5 inch smartphone to a 5 inch LG and added a 64 GB SD card next to the Sim card under the removable back for $240 (total price not the subsidized price) for the phone paid back interest free over the next two years from my wireless carrier. All the camera's photos can be added to the SD card but I would never remove the card to facilitate transfer of the photos or other pictures to my PC. I use some of the methods suggested in this series of posts which were great.
