Canon is running a great special right now. For the price of a couple of ink cartridges you get a bunch of paper.
I can always use black ink. Here is my purchase today. Cost is 1/10 the value.
I have tried out many different brands and have settled on LexJet Sunset Photo esatin 300gms for all my portrait needs on my Cannon Pro100.
Paper for the most part should match up to your printer for best results. I use Epson printers so I use a lot of Epson paper. I also have a supply of Red River paper. I like the way the pictures come out.
Glossy or Mat finish is fun to play with.
I have been using the Canon 100 for about 9 months. When I first received the printer I was using it a lot, and had to order more ink. Every time I ordered from Canon, they were offering free paper with the order of ink. So I now have several shelves of different Canon papers. For glossy prints I like the Pro Platinum, for semi-glossy my favorite is the Pro Luster, and for a non reflective print the Pro Matte is very nice. After reading this forum I have been trying Red River paper. The RR polar pearl metallic gives a stunning glossy surface, and the RR polar matte is becoming my favorite. An earlier post suggests that Canon has the free paper program now in effect. You will need the ink, so send them an order and they will give you all this free paper, and you can try them without charge. I usually order the 8 ink tank value pack, because you will need them and it seems like one or another individual tank needs to be changed. Order a sample pack from Red River and give that paper a try.
Red River paper co, and Atlex.com for inks for my epson printer.
I have been using Costco Glossy paper for about 8 years now for proofing and contact sheets and I love it. The price is awesome.

Other than you, what experts support that broad assertion? As far as I know Red River doesn't make printers. I have a Canon printer. But Ilford paper runs circles around Canon's best.

Several years ago when Staples for the most part stopped carrying Canon paper (I use a PIXMA PRO 9000 MK II) I started using Red River Paper mostly the 68 lb. Ultra Pro Gloss 2.0), but I keep some of their other papers on hand too. I think it is a little more expensive, but they always have it in stock and shipment is prompt. Their paper profiles are a free download. I suspect the extra costs are somewhat offset by less wasted paper due to having the correct paper profiles.
You might want to check out Red River's sample packs. I have always used premium Epson papers but recently bought two different 8.5x11 sample packs from RR's website. Reasonable price and they cover most of their ink jet product line. Canvas, linen, gloss, matte, metallic. Some are so substantial that they require a printer with rear feed since they won't go around internal rollers. I found that I really like their 66lb Polar Pearl Metallic. Ended up ordering a supply in both 8.5x11 and 11x17.
Thanks for the heads up on this special. Just ordered a couple of blacks. Problem is if I ever use all this paper I'm going to need a hell of a lot more ink! I guess that's the whole idea.
I do not print often and prefer a Professional Lab but when I print I use Premium Photo Paper from Office Depot.
It is made by Agfa.

Hold on there. Slavery is still abolished and unconstitutional in these United States when last I checked. Although one could surmise that Trump and his gang might seek to reinstate it.

This is, also, my choices... and has been for many (10+) years. I am partial to Red River's 68lb Ultrapro Satin 3.0 (both single and double-sided). (I currently use an Epson Stylus Pro 3880.)
