If they gave to UPS and it never got to me then the issue is between Adorama and UPS.

I agree, then the insurance should pick it up and that's on UPS.

A month ago I decided to purchase a LUMIX LX 100. Theee weeks ago, based on previous positive experiences I ordered it from Adorama. I got a notice from UPS that it would be delivered on Friday, 3 weeks ago today. Knowing I wouldn't be home that weekend and would miss the delivery I called Adorama and asked they delay the delivery until the following Monday. They said it had already shipped and couldn't change anything. I then contacted UPS who told me they couldn't do anything until the delivery was made and if no one answered they driver would leave a tag and I should call back with the tag number. Well, when I returned Monday, there was no tag and no box. Obviously UPS just decided to drop it at my front door with no signature and someone helped themselves to it. I called Adorama and they said they would have to go through the UPS claims scenario. Last Monday I was told by Adorama that UPS determined it was a successful delivery. How, I don't know since no one signed for it. I told them this was unacceptable to which they responded they would reopen the case with UPS and it would be another 2 weeks. I told them what they could do and I was calling my credit card company to dispute it as well as turning it over to my attorney who happens to be my wife. Meanwhile, there has been zero communication from Adorama. 4 weeks is outrageous.

I don't know if there is anyone on this website from Adorama but you just lost a sale and a customer. Plus, I will NEVER recommmend your company....ever. If anyone else else on here has had this experience you can understand how frustrating it is. Monday I'm going to purchase from B&H. Adorama....This is NOT how to run a business. Apparently you just don't care.

Not Adorama's fault!!!! The fault lies with UPS and you, when you got notice of delivery and knew you would not be home you should have made other arrangements with UPS.
Now I don't as a rule deal Adorama,
I have been happy with B&H so there is no reason to change.

I had a similar sutuation 2-3 years ago, the package was arriving when I needed to be out of town. There is an option to have them deliver the package to the nearest UPS place, I made changes on the their webpage and picked up the package later.
Sorry about your problem.

Changing shipping arrangements AFTER the merchandise has already been shipped out is a bad idea and is often not successful. Most carriers, including UPS, are simply not set up for this. And to blame Adorama for the fiasco is absurd.

You ordered it, they shipped it. The shipping company delivered it. Somebody stole it. Sounds like an issue for local law enforcement and your insurance company.

Not true ... and the person that told you that is just drawing a paycheck without trying to help.

You can have it held at your nearest UPS warehouse ... as long as it's not loaded on the delivery truck from that nearest warehouse.
You can make the delivery change online.

In my area they hold for 7 days, if you do not pick up ... it goes back to original sender.

I think you are partially responsible.

And you determine this how? The store contracts with UPS...not me. My contract is with Adorama.

As far as shipping is concerned, the store's responsibility ended when the shipper accepted the package from them. You haven't said how soon before the delivery was to be made that you called UPS to request a new delivery date. As has been said, if it was already out for delivery, it may have been too late. But telling you what you should have done is no help now, I'm sure that between the store and shipper the problem will be resolved. I think you are wrong to blame the store, though. It sounds as if they upheld their end of the bargain. Good luck!

As long as there is eBay and Craigslist, there will be theives following delivery trucks. ABC did a piece on it last night. Online shoppers can track deliveries, install lock boxes on their front porch, open a mailbox store account, etc. FedEx and UPS both have an option to create an online account that will email you when a package is coming from anyone. You can have it held or redirected by logging on. Amazon is developing their own delivery system to cut out UPS and FedEX! Part of it is installing lockers in shopping centers. There is one at my nearby Safeway. When you scan your smartphone or receipt, your locker opens up.

That's you. I don't have that option.

You still have personal resposibility. If you don't have the neighbor option you shouldn't have delivery when not there, require signiture, send to a friend, etc.

The first thing is to take resposibility vs. blaming others for your mistake.

When Adorama shipped the package it was assigned a routing number. If you were contacted and informed of delivery date then they should have given you the routing number. Through routing number would also be available from Adorama on your purchase record.

There are two parties at faullt here, and in both circumstances UPS is one of them. The UPS rep you spoke to for misinformation you about the tag number, which doesn't make any sense because of the routing number, and yourself for not going to the UPS Web site and doing some research to ensure this exact scenario didn't happen. I don't remember what you said it was you purchased but, if it was worth over a certain monetary value, it should have been insured and it should have required a signature for delivery. If this is the case the UPS driver is at fault for delivering the package.

About one year ago I purchased a Canon 5Dsr from one of the big name online retailers and I requested it be shipped to a PO box. For whatever reason, they accepted the shipping address and shipped it UPS anyway. UPS does not deliver to PO boxes. The store should have known this and UPS certainly knew this but it went UPS anyway. It doesn't take long for an item to move front a warehouse near NYC to southeastern Pennsylvania and since it was a fairly expensive purchase, I was watching it from the moment I received a shipping notice.
Long story shortened, I contacted the store as they were responsible for shipping the item; they contacted UPS to change the shipping destination while in route and I picked up the package from the UPS store nearest to the original destination, which by the way wasn't all that near.
Although our two situation are different, they both involved a NYC online retailer and UPS. Since it was the busy season, I didn't take the word of one service rep and made sure the package was not misplaced in shipping. I was also very courteous on the phone with both the store and the UPS folks, making sure I didn't tell them where they could put the package or what they could do with their merchandise or any angry flippant off color remarks driven by anger and frustration, because that will just make a bad situation worse.

I really hope you get either a refund or the merchandise you purchased. Going to your credit card company to contest the purchase may be your best recourse.

I really hate these posts where the OP damages a company before exhausting all alternatives when much of it as said is "Operator Error" without any accountability. Thanks Helen for helping this guy.
