I downloaded yesterday and everything went very well. I'm using it as a LR and PS extension. Only tried it with LR so far and like what I see.
It's certainly another set of tools to use.

I'm about to go away for a week and will only have my iPad with me, so I wish there were an iOS version! ;-).

I emailed Macphun support yesterday, and trust I will hear back shortly.

When I go into either Photos or system preferences to add Luminar as an extension, it does not show up to be checked. I will try the uninstall and reinstall, but don't see how that is different from installing in the first place yesterday.

Thanks for both of your replies

I didn't see the difference either however the uninstall and reinstall worked perfectly. After you do the uninstall be sure to restart your Mac.

I got a couple of emails trying to persuade me to buy it, but I resisted. I have to draw the line somewhere. I'm glad you like it, though. We need more alternatives to Adobe that are affordable. I think what happened with Adobe is the bandwagon effect. Professionals and businesses rely on their products, so private individuals began using them. At some point, Adobe became the standard for anyone doing photo processing, although the average home processor can get all the processing power he needs for a fraction of the cost.

I am inclined to agree with Jerry.
Whenever we get a new app the software companies tell us it is the best thing since sliced bread and within what seems a short space of time up pops a new version costing even more. I have enough to do in learning how to get my head around Creative Kit 2016.
Luminar looks like an impressive app but do I need another one???

I am using Luminar and really enjoying it so far. Like another user here, I have had challenges with some masks, which has proven to be a user issue rather than software. I see that MacPhun is on this site and I'm really glad for their interest. It shows how responsive they want to be for people like us. That alone should entice Hoggers to give Luminar a shot. Compared to the other stuff we buy to make images, Luminar is a huge bargain.

I did some testing yesterday and it seems very complete. I had a little trouble getting the hang of spot removal and cloning. I think I like the spot removal in LR better and the cloning in "Snap Heal" is wonderful. Since when you "edit in"from LR the raw image is converted to a tiff, would it be better to set the white point and black point in LR first in order to get the full benefit of the
Raw image?

I have the Creativity pack as well. Has some issues initially, when using Luminar in Aperture. Hung up the first time opened but worked fine on the second attempt.
Yes the controls have a learning curve. I learn best by doing so tutorials are not especially helpful to me.

I installed Luminar yesterday however am unable to see it as an extension for Apple Photos. What a disappointment. I thought Luminar was built for Apple computers.

I open Luminar from Aperture. I am on an iMac.

Agree. We do need competition, though if for no other reason than to keep Adobe as honest as possible. I have problems with LR/PS from time to time. Hopefully having competition will provide incentives to Adobe to continue improving their product.

Began using today ... here is my thoughts after 2-3 hours

Update 11/18/16 (important to note: less than 3 hrs under my belt)
.. Using as a plug-in to Lightroom
.. Editing Presets Basic, Outdoor, Street etc allow 'quick-enhance' without needing several sliders for initial improvement of photo
.. (surprise) Achieves similar eye appealing HDR without HDR and probably a nice tool for enhancing single image editing
.. Workspace and filters not explored so far
.. Could see this is a feature-packed editing software that I would use initially, for iPhone jpeg's where I do not envision composition would not produce a 'commercial' quality image, but very well acceptable for sharing with anyone.
.. I can see it fitting well into a Lightroom workflow
.. Two image tests were performed (HDR/Nik Collection versus Luminar single image) that created almost identical outputs. Idea: create bracketed HDR and edit in Luminar (note: my preferred HDR enhancing is NOT to create art.

I've downloaded Luminar as a stand alone software without any problems - I have a Mac - and have only been able to use it once so far. I wanted to darken the background on a flower picture, and did it without any problem or confusion. I'm going to love this software!

.. is anyone aware of a user group
.. are there members interested in sharing what tld worhey find and how they accomplish enhancing with Luminar
.. until a user forum is available, would UHH Luminar 'experimenters' be interested in using an open Blog or simply use UHH
