Just downloaded Luminar from Macphun. Grabbed some NEFs and corrected some issues. Works well! Seems easy to navigate. Add-on for Aperture, PS and LR. Choices for adding to PS, LR Aperture and Elements is one of the first things one must do when first setting up the app.

Have to go now, but I am interested in other's initial experiences.

Thank you for starting this thread. We at Macphun are looking to hear your thoughts as well.
FYI We plan to release the new update every 1.5-2 months, so more is coming soon.

Thanks for the information. Just downloaded yesterday. May have some time over the weekend, certainly by next weekend. Will send feedback. Have used Aperture exclusively for the past several years and will use as add-on there.

I did some testing yesterday and it seems very complete. I had a little trouble getting the hang of spot removal and cloning. I think I like the spot removal in LR better and the cloning in "Snap Heal" is wonderful. Since when you "edit in"from LR the raw image is converted to a tiff, would it be better to set the white point and black point in LR first in order to get the full benefit of the
Raw image?

I installed Luminar yesterday however am unable to see it as an extension for Apple Photos. What a disappointment. I thought Luminar was built for Apple computers.

All McPhun is telling me to do is uninstall and reinstall. What is that going to accomplish?

Very pleased after only a day. Normally, I'm not a fan of presets, but I quickly found one that is super! Still trying to figure out the Luminosity Mask feature. I suspect it's not as flexible in masking specific brightness values as I'd like. On-line user guide on Luminosity Masks is a bit vague. Except for that nit-pick, I think Luminar, like Aurora will be my new go-to Lightroom plugins for most work. Suggest watching MacPhun's Luminar on-line videos.

When you edit in LR all you are doing is writing code, which is shown on a jpeg preview. When you Export, you have the choice of writing as a tiff, PSD or jpeg, and can set your file size or image dimensions/dpi. That is the reason LR is said to be "non destructive", you never alter the original file, only a copy of it- unless you really misuse the program.

It may repair a "glitch" in the original download? It also wouldn't hurt to: Disk Utilities>repair permissions - before and after downloading new software. If you have antivirus software running, turn it off when downloading new software(from known manufacturers), then back on after the download.

I got a couple of emails trying to persuade me to buy it, but I resisted. I have to draw the line somewhere. I'm glad you like it, though. We need more alternatives to Adobe that are affordable. I think what happened with Adobe is the bandwagon effect. Professionals and businesses rely on their products, so private individuals began using them. At some point, Adobe became the standard for anyone doing photo processing, although the average home processor can get all the processing power he needs for a fraction of the cost.

Of course it does not change the original in Lightroom BUT, when you "edit in" the file that goes to the external application includes the Lightroom adjustments. Ergo, it seems to me that an optimized white point and black point would be helpful as you have extracted the full tonal range available in the RAW file. Some of the information may get lost during the conversion to TIFF.

Mine also did not work as an extension to Photos, even though the tutorials clearly said it is supposed to. Presumably Maphun will fix the problem. Stand alone version needs batch processing, which I understand will arrive next month.

Have you emailed support@macphun.com?
We have figured out what the issue is. You should move Luminar to the Applications folder first:)

I followed McPhun's latest advice. Uninstall Luminar with AppCleaner. Restart Mac. Install Luminar and Activate. Go to Mac Preferences>Extensions and mark Luminar for Photos. Open Photos and bring up a pic to edit. When you click on Extensions you will see Luminar.
